Merry Christmas everyone. The overeating and drinking is well underway. Take it easy out there.

I'm having a shitty time thanks to some poor decision making (not mine - I explicitly predicted this problem) about the company infrastructure - so I'm having to work every fucking day over Christmas to make sure that we have the ability to bill our customers, which is, you know, kind of important. Not being paid for it obviously....

But still, neighbour dropped me a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, had a cheap pie for Christmas dinner  so could be worse.

Got bro coming round in Monday to help me clear the house out after two years of COVID/lockdown related depression (the place is a complete shithole) and the problems that causes. Then back to work I suppose.

Ho hum. Merry Christmas, may your ho's come in triplicate and your trips to the toilet tomorrow morning be gloriously extravagant.

Yes, spare a thought for us poor souls working today! Like @Beany I’ve been slaving away.

Unlike Beany, I just got home and popped open some festive reisling - if you’re pissed then they can’t call you back to work!

Ah, if I'm pissed then whatevers broken stays broken.

Hence, one bottle of wine for me, because the concept of 'cover' is alien to my employer.

Fuck knows, another bottle would make me very happy but conveniently I definitely shouldn't drive to the local 24hr garage so a quiet one for me, methinks.

I'll mebbe do a roast in the week....

I raise my glass to the Christmas Day workers.

I fecking hate having wine in the afternoon though, sends me right to sleep - in fact I just woke up from a nap. Can see why the big wine drinkers in Europe have a siesta…

First year I haven’t had a Christmas dinner, or any one to talk to. Fooking covid.

We were having chicken for dinner as we all know turkey is like cardboard but when my wife went to prepare it it was still partially frozen. A few hours later it was thawed so she warmed the oven and shoved the chicken in to cook. For some inexplicable reason when she did this she also turned the oven off but didn’t realise until the timer went “ding!” to signal that this culinary masterpiece was ready to serve.

I wasn’t that hungry anyway after too much chocolate today

<doffs cap to those who haven’t had the chrimpy they wanted/deserved>

Have a great day tomorrow Jimmy 😎

Mrs Mik is doing a massive ham for tomorrow - always my favourite - and I’ll have the time to make some garlic hasselback totties. Already looking forward to it.

I got this from mrs mik and my boys, so I am trying not to get lost in it… it’s stupendous - although they didn’t realise I’d need a stand so it’s currently lashed up to a table with strategically placed bits of wood and weights.

having read your post and reviewed the level of culinary skill in your household, I think I understand why you think turkey is like cardboard...

Brilliant 😂😂

I have to jump to the defence of Turkey though. I got a 2.5kg turkey breast (wrapped in bacon) from Booths and smoked it for 5.5hrs and it was super tasty and very juicy. I accompanied it with a saddle of wild venison stuffed with cognac soaked fruit. Both super and epic. 😁

:D

My mother ordered a small turkey. On collection she was handed a 8kg monster which only just fitted in the oven. Was cooked tho, eventually 😁🎄

Ooh, this is my opportunity to review the multiple turkeys I have had over the last fortnight.

Parker’s Tavern, Cambridge: 4/5 - just verging on the dry and stringy but a solid performance. Special mention for amazing sprouts with chestnuts though.

Old Fire Engine House, Ely: 4/5 - would be 3.5 but a lady came round with seconds

Hilton, Cambridge: 3/5 - dry, clearly a bit too mass produced

My mate Laura’s house, Chiswick: 5/5 - luscious, moist and juicy. And the Turkey was good too. I enjoyed her other half’s spuds too.

Old Fire Engine House, Ely: 4/5 - went back again and again had seconds

Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge: 2/5 - it was dry and terrible and I didn’t get to finish it because some bloke tore his aorta but at least it was free and the nice lady in the canteen could not give me enough Parsnip

These days people don't spend much time or thought on some personal words to their friends and family, they just copy and paste some random message and send it on. So after all we've been though together this year I want to thank you for your friendship and wish you a happy and fulfilling 2022- you’re the best gymnastics group anyone could ask for. That’s tickled me 😂 I’m stealing that.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I had almost exactly the same message from a former colleague, except it was for 2004 and signed Michelle (which was a bit weird coming from Darryl). What are the odds?!

If it makes you feel any better, Beany, my xmas day was filled with my 'rents terrible cooking, my f'ing horrific sociopathic american sister in law, and my wife trying to compete with her for who is loudest.

Not sure I'd swap places, mind.

A fantastic dinner at the the In-laws, kids played up a bit near the end but was otherwise a lovely day.
