When I was a youth I read a book called When the Sky Fell: In Search of Atlantis. Don't know if it's stood the test of time, but I remember being fascinated by it at the time.

^ Was going to watch but it's him so I didn't. I can vaguely recall it from school, get reminded of it by the shipping forecast, now wonder why I haven't seen Diggerland signs artfully altered.

Long story short, doggerland was some lowish lying land in the north sea that was a bridge between europe and the UK.

Current theory is that changing climate released some gas/upset the crinkly bits of the fjords, knocked a huge chunk of them off norway which combined to fuck up most of the east coast of the UK, and swamp doggerland. Eventually, melting ice caps as the climate warmed up caused it to be flooded permanantly.
