I had no idea stealing cats was still a big thing.
I also remember having to replace one on my MR2 and KwikFit wanted £1500 + fitting + VAT.
FTFY ;)

Indeed, I’d only paid £1400 for the car.

Cheers chaps. It's a pain; an expense and hassle I don't need.

Sad to report that my Integra is no more.

Last week the engineer from LV informed me that they wouldn’t be able to fix my car, instead offered me a pitiful £320 (after deducting insurance excess) to fix the car myself. Alternatively they could write the car off and offered £950 after deduction.

After consulting Flewy and a couple other mates, and with the Integra’s MOT running out in a month, I decided the best course of action, financially, would be to accept the £320 offer, and then sell the car separately.

In the end I sold the car to a dealer / breaker from the Integra forum, for £1450.

I desperately needed a replacement car, so I started my search, with the main criteria being long MOT, sub-£3k, estate, and within 25 miles from my home. So last Friday I bought a 2006 BMW 318i Touring, with no history, no V5 (all lost by previous owner) and only 1 key. Yes I live my life dangerously.

Total cost of change was £727 (inc £25 for new V5 and £171 extra insurance premium).

A very sorry end to the whole saga but at least I can close the chapter now and move on.

I had ten and a half satisfying years with my DC2, an outstanding driver’s car. I shall miss it.

Replacement
2006 318i Touring (4-pot 127bhp)
132,285 miles
11-month MOT

It’s a ‘6-foot car’, with the usual age related marks. It drives really well though, and feels tight and no knocking noise from the suspensions. It’s my first BMW and my first FR car.... I took it out this morning for a drive and it was fun and felt great, despite the lack of power and budget tyres.

I ‘get’ BMWs now, the ‘ultimate driving machine’. I’m quite fond of it already but must stop myself spending money on it. Perhaps I will move on to a E90/91 325i/328i/330i (hello @Swervin_Mervin) in the future.

A very annoying end to ten years (wow!) of car ownership but I'm sure the BMW will do the everyday car thing for you.

I don’t really know..... rarely any UKDM for sale now. The so called mint ones are over £12k.... but they all rust unless they are dry-day only garage queens.

Mine lived outside, and a daily workhorse, so pink and rusty.

Seems mad to have written it off for that, I think I’d have had it back and got an aftermarket sports cat stuck on. If tidy ones are £10k+ surely even a scruffy one is worth £5k :?

Both. Will need money spent on it for MOT (due in April)

Oof. I feel your pain brother :( that's pretty much how the Puma went, including going to a Puma community breaker

Welcome to the BMW club, however. Although I have to point out that E46s are better ;)

Written off for the sake of a cat. What a world.

But OTOH, welcome to BMW ownership 8-)

Sad times for the integra but by the sounds of it makes sense to move on given its condition.

Yep - got to have owned a beemer at some point in every petrolheads life (plus a 911 and have endured the pain of an Alfa - obviously you've ticked the first box, though not sure about the second?).

Mind you that one is missing two cylinders so I'd say you've still got one more munich-wagen to go! ;) If you do upgrade in the future I'd heartily recommend an e9X 330i with the N52 engine (I think - its been a while now - whichever has the silver engine cover) - its lightyears better than the 6s in the E46 (despite what beany might think :D ).

I might not have explained it clearly.... the car has not been written off. I was offered the option by the insurer, but I sold it to a dealer/breaker instead as it benefited me more financially.

The dealer/breaker’s intention is to keep it on the road (at least for now).

Don’t E46s rust as well? ;)

Shame about it.
Won’t you get screwed over if you have to tell the insurance company for the next few years that you’ve had a claim now?

Protected no claim. :)

I’ve had various claims over the years; in my experience no difference in annual premium.
