2020 goals were
- Lose weight - tick, 11kg down and no longer in the obese category of BMI
- Finish PhD - definitely not tick but in fairness it was covid's fault
2021 goals are
- Lose weight - well I know how to do it now. Target BMI in the normal range
- Finish PhD - err
- Get a job back in Cambridge
- Buy a house with the Mrs

I’ve given up on BNI Newt - I still need to loose another 2 stone to arrive at the upper end of Normal.
If I lost another 2 stone, I would look like a marathon runner... with an eating disorder

I know what you mean - it's a blunt tool and doesn't work well for everyone. I am a bit more focussed on what things look like in the mirror but my brain is quite numbers focussed and it's been useful to me as both a goal and a way to know I am making progress.

My waist is 3” smaller than 1997 - this can only be a good thing - BP’s down (well the lower number which is the one to concern yourself about - right???)

There are times in medical practice where it is best to say something broadly reassuring but only vaguely truthful.

Yeah, I’m tall and quite stockily built so even at my lightest I measure as obese on bmi.
My measure is a pair of 36” waist trousers. If I can’t fit in them I need to drop a bit of weight. I’m nowhere close just now

I’ve been lifting weights and running everyday last year so things are ok in that respect. I’ve also been getting through a couple of bottles of Kraken every week and started smoking again so not so good there
Basic plans for this year are to go down to one car as the Boxster hasn’t been used that much. I still always enjoy driving but never really go out just for a drive. Maybe another Audi, an SUV type thing or possibly a 911 dependent on mileage.
I’d also hope to have moved house by this time next year. But I no doubt said that 12 months ago.

Started the year with work going well, eldest happy in reception, youngest in nursery, fun trip to pick up new EV.
Then with covid was suddenly full-time parenting around work calls, and struggling to do what work I needed to do in the evenings. I work in an industry (remote comms related) that's done well out of a pandemic, certainly no shortage of work, bosses happy about not needing to furlough anyone. The initial cheerful flexibility ("take as much time as you need to look after your kids") cracked after a few months and I went to heavily reduced hours in the end. I suspect like in many industries, the notion that a father might take on the primary childcare role is alien to them.
Back to normal-ish from September, youngest now in school's nursery, school got through to Christmas with no bubbles closed. Still a bit of juggling around school runs and catching up when I'd rather be doing fun stuff but generally all good. Then Christmas plans cancelled, and now no school/nursery in London for a couple of weeks minimum (I'm not hopeful about this half of term). Have a fun discussion with bosses again tomorrow.
Still, really got back into my MTB night riding from the middle of the year, quite a few decent daytime rides too when I could, so more miles in 2020 than most recent years. Knocked off a few little house projects, plenty more to do in 2021. Hoping to start planning permission by the end of the year for my big garage at the bottom of the garden, and hope to have enough to get started soon after that. The Stepwgn really needs a bit of tarting up too, will look to get new tailgate sprayed and some other minor body stuff fixed, quite tempted to get some new wheels for it along with new tyres when they're needed.

Similarly, for me, the BMI range is crazy. At what I regard as my "ideal" weight and in shape for a climbing competition, BMI says I'm 1/2 way up the normal range. At that, I'm about 11-12% body fat, and look borderline malnourished. The bottom of the normal range is 7kg less, which I don't think is possible without chopping off a limb.

BMI was originally designed to work on a population level by a French mathematician in the 19th century studying populations. It's a very blunt tool for an individual person and body fat composition or even hip to waist ratio are probably better measures; I haven't yet figured out what my next goal is going to be after I have lost an amout of fat I am happy with but it won't be BMI based. For now though, it's a good way to track my progress. It was weighing in for an experiment and realising I had become obese over the summer that was the catalyst for this current diet.

Covid aside, 2020 wasn't too bad for me. I worked from home and got paid which is more than a lot of people, so I guess I can be thankful for that.
Work-wise, still contracting at Sky but looking to go perm before April. There was an offer but Covid has screwed their budgets and I'm not sure what's going on, so I may have to start looking elsewhere in a month or so if they don't pull their fingers out.
I managed to get married the week before lockdown which was also very fortunate!
I have since managed to find all the weight I lost pre-wedding, so my primary goal for 2021 is to lose the 2st I've put on through a complete lack of exercise and a piss-poor diet. Obviously, there's been no judo since March and I can't see a return until at least the summer, so I'll just have to make do with lunch-time runs.
Car-wise the biggest thing was getting the 928. It's cost me a lot of money so far, but I knew this would have to be spent beforehand and I didn't pay a lot for it in the first place. I'm booking a few days off towards the back-end of this month to spend actually tackling the outstanding jobs list. It's an awesome thing to drive and I want to get it finished for the summer and have some good trips with it (pandemic permitting).
The V60 continues to give faultless service, although I suspect there'll be some suspension work required soon. It's due a service next month so I'm sure there'll be something found then.

Same on all counts. The way I look at it is that if I don't need to get clothes from a specialist 'large man's' outlet then I'm probably ok.
That said I'm on the verge (44" waist) and my back is niggling me more often so I should probably lighten up on the diet front and walk a bit more.

I think what has focussed me is that being obese seems to be the co-morbidity that tips people over the edge in covid. See it time after time. I can't think of anyone under the age of 50 on ICU with it who has not been a big lad.

I had a wedding coming up and just wanted to look different in the pictures.
I had a lot of help along the way - Hypnotherapy is the key but I appreciate this isn't for anyone. Then over the past few years, I've been battling (and loosing) with various dental issues which has meant sweet things, fizzy Drinks, and more recently, anything overly crispy or crunchy are all now gone from my diet.
the COVID hit and I had a serious case of Food Anxiety - My son's eats a wide range of food but can be a little particular on brands and quality. So my portions were further reduced in size and with working from home, new waking hours (Later to bed etc) means I know only eat twice a day (about 11:30 and 18:30)
However, I'd recently found out a mate is now 5 lbs lighter than me again so I've 6 more lbs to go...

Even otherwise vulnerable people?
I do remember when Italian hospitals allowed filming during the first wave, all the patients in ICU were rather overweight.
