What does all this programming crap have to do with it? Surely there's a verified box that you stick in a car that records speed accurately or a timing system that you stick on the road that times a car between two points?

Yes.

But.

SSC wanted a fancy looking frontend display for the car and video. The programming of which was the responsibility of SSC not the data acquisition company Dewetron.

It’s all bollocks, they tried to deceive in a last bid to get publicity/sales. Even they must have known that the car wouldn’t do 300+ with that gearing and also sending a driver out on standard Michelins just inflated with nitrogen would have been a quick way of killing the poor bastard. Your average 13 year old kid can work out gear ratios on a RC car yet an engineering company which ground up build a supercar somehow missed it - yeah right.
Don’t see how they would re-run it - doubt they can afford to get a 330 mph tyre made for their car unless they pick up a tyre sponsor.

I've been out myself this morning and SMASHED the SSC record, I went 400mph - verified with a Twatty-Python-dewybox no less!

I'd just lifted off at that point too, so the stop/start kicked in - Probably another 100mph left I reckon...
