Hmm, might be time to seriously start considering my options too.
We’ve been crazy busy over the past three months, best first half of the year on record, orders still piling in and everyone’s been working flat out with barebones staffing levels.
Rather than any kind of thanks or rewards for the hard work they’re talking about a compulsory minimum of 12 hours overtime a month.
Not a great time for it though, might have to suck it up, be glad of some job security and see what’s going on in the world next year.

I went from financial analysis to renovating/renting flats, with little more than basic DIY skills behind me. I have proper tradespeople for stuff that's beyond my skill levels, but most of the maintenance stuff is all perfectly do-able. Pay is considerably better than the previous "professional" stuff.
More generally, my advice would be - look primarily to leverage your available capital (and borrowing power) rather than your skillset.

Different line of work, but in my world there’s still outside-IR35 roles around. I interviewed for one a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah Lotus are one of the few automotive Co's recruiting at the moment. Very competitive though with JLR letting go huge numbers of contractors.

Harsh. Why I only played blackjack when I went to Vegas. Only game I thought I understood (and did walk away with $100ish more than I started with after I'd paid for the room).
Edit: stayed three nights in Vegas as it was a cheap place to stay and use as a base when exploring the surrounding areas.

What sort of network kit does your work use? And what’s your role in supporting it?
Or is it just a general technical understanding about how networks work that they want you to get?

You've reminded me of all the politely worded 'opportunities' we get to work extra time for our clients for no financial benefit. On top of the extra time I already work for my clients for no financial benefit (to me).

. We’re much larger now and our requirements are starting to outstrip my knowledge/ability to google.
Need something that will give me a more professional knowledge base to build from as we keep growing.

Cisco CCNA is not a bad foundational course. Obviously built around their way and products, but the principles are universal.
