One of my late father's favourite cars was the DB7, that's one third of the interest. I think the DB7 is marginally smaller (microns - but it may make the difference in terms of fitting into the garage) but yes the DB9 seems to be something of a steal If You Can Find A Good One. I think £25k for that DB7 (with an inspection) is ok - a DB9 for that whilst still good quality would be a good bargain.

That comment was only tongue in cheek (though I understand there is some truth in it), but you'd never have one over a DB9 would you?
The dials look like they're from a Rover 45!
The DB7 GT is basically an early DB9, they would be my pick but I’d be very happy with a DB7!

I agree OC. It's a lot of car for the money, if you don't mind spending a bit more on bills (which you could probably write off against depreciation to a degree), you've got a handsome, premium marque V12 GT for not that much money.
They must be at the bottom of the curve too. It was always a good looking car but it’s aged staggeringly well

This will make up for the 2.0l £40k diesel slip up
I liked the car and don't regret it, but the days of me buying base engine and speccing the crap out of the rest are over. My next car, whatever it is, will have a decent engine, sound good and go properly

GT is a lot more money I think and I'm going to set a limit here of £25k for a weekender - anything above that starts to get difficult to justify. To me anyway.

This would apparenty fit the garage with an inch to spare but I'm guessing a little on what the mirrors take up. Challenge with all this would be the only real way to test whether a car fits is to get one to the house before buying

Get the DB7 if that’s what you’ve got your eye on.

The DB9 might be the more 'sensible' choice, but I think I'd still rather a DB7 on looks alone. It's one of those genuinely rare designs that just works in pretty much every way to my eyes, which again, to my eyes, isn't true of the DB9.
Might be an age/hero cars thing.

Hmm I wasn’t aware they had a V12 option, always though it was a fancy XK with a straight 6. That said I never saw these when growing up and still never see these. When the DB9 came out they were littered all over London.

Engine-wise maybe, but the DB9 is a totally different platform and also gets you away from that Jag interior.
All else being equal, I'd take the DB9 over the DB7, but I don't have the family/nostalgic connection to the DB7.

I don’t think it was the Vanquish but the DB7 GT was used as a method to cut development costs for either the DB9 or Vanquish, so the chassis and driveline is a half way house between the two and that’s why it’s a better drivers car than a normal DB7. Pretty clever back in the day and helped the cost situation.

Do you have enough room to open the car door and get out?

My limited experience of owning two cars was hampered by two main issues.
1. My driveway was in front of my garage, so getting the fun car out meant moving the other one and putting it back. (Not helped by one of them being an RX8 that you had to leave running)
2. My weekends consisted of more practical car requirements than fun car opportunities.
I’d love an Elise, but I just don’t think I’d ever use it, so I’d rather have an M2 or some other jack of all trades.

Yes the garage is four foot wider than the door width, so it opens up once inside, as it were...

Do DB7s rot like XJS and XKs do?

I get the connection to DB7 but it'd be a 9 everytime for me.

(Facelifted?) DB7s’ large circular side lights look like afterthought to me. Still a very handsome car though. Do it!
