I put this on the mother tbh, she's enabling this behaviour so why wouldn't he continue being a cvnt. He is a selfish cvnt all the same mind, I'm impressed you haven't called him out to his face yet.

We have. Other than Christmas, he hasn’t spoken to us for 18 months.

Aye well, maybe you should have done the meter readings yourself and got in touch with the electricity/gas company when you moved in and out and then you’d know for sure, wouldn’t you?

Luckily, the meters were read by the provider just either side of him being in there, coincidentally. To be fair to the M-I-L, she’s told him if he can provide proof of the meter readings, she’ll happily use those, otherwise pay up. He’s not happy.
