That sounds like a great switch. Navitimers have such a timeless appeal, especially with a GMT complication and blue leather strap. I’ve always admired their detailed dials. While waiting for your pics, I’ve been tinkering with some hobbies, including adding LED light kits for LEGO® sets, which really bring them to life. Looking forward to seeing the Navitimer in action soon!

Can you add LED light kits to a Navitimer? Or maybe a Patek Nautilus?

Who is servicing Rolex these days, outside of Rolex, that's decent value and respectable? I really should get my 25 year old AirKing serviced.

I took my (admittedly shitty) Orient into an MRI by accident once and it gains about 5 mins a day since then. I never saw the point in taking it to anyone as it's a cheapo mechanical but maybe I can try getting the back off myself (and if I break it I will buy another cheapo, perhaps this time a Corgeut).

Yarp - I've regulated 3 watches now. Once you know the movement you'll be able to find an online image of the correct adjustment lever. It is quite difficult to get an accurate phone-based measurement, so if (like me) you don't do it often enough to justify a decent measurement tool then the best method I've found is adjust > set to exact time > leave 12-24hrs > adjust again if needed. Repeat 'til you are happy.

In saying that - your situation sounds like you might just have inadvertently magnetised it - in which case I'd buy a cheapo demagnetiser first and see if that does the job. Something like this thing.

So... aided by a perhaps overliberal consumption of alcoholic beverages last Friday evening, I put in a cheeky bid on a Rolex GMT Master II through Chrono24 (being sold by a reputable dealer I'd heard of). I woke up on Saturday with a bit of an "oh shit" feeling

Thankfully, the dealer counter-offered which gave me time to consider it more fully and I decided I did want to go ahead with it. I guess this was my way of being both kind of sensible and impatient at the same time as I was considering spending more and buying a Patek but that would not have been until near enough 12 months time. As it is, we likely will push to try and move house mid next year so I brought the budget back down to earth.

Anyway, I collected it this morning and am loving it. The 40mm case size is much more all-round usable than the Panerai or IWC and works much much better with a shirt and suit. I wore a shirt with very slim cuffs as an acid test and it passed with ease. I work all the time with NY so the GMT function will be very useful.

Sold with box, papers, tags and even the bezel protector which I understand Rolex are not supposed to hand over to customers as it can literally then be sold just as it would arrive from a dealer.

Very nice

If I was going to buy another nice watch, it would be this one

Having got the tape measure out - there's a bit of creative license in this though as the measurements don't include the crown guards - with them its actually 42.5mm I'd say. The thick lugs also increase the presence of the watch. These are all good things from my perspective as it is nice and slim without looking too diminutive.

I took a picture this morning next to the PAM and I don't think if you didn't know their respective sizes that you'd say the Panerai was 5mm larger than the Rolex.



Its also funny as I do feel self conscious wearing it around the office. Admittedly its new and that will wear off, but its one of those watches that everyone knows what it is and is more "flash" than the bigger Panerai, which I expect some people think is a toy watch

Exposing it to 30,000 gauss may well do that!

Doing a direct EUR-GBP conversion including the €120 shipping cost (which is also subject to VAT) and adding 20% VAT comes to £2701.76. But you will end up paying a few percent to your card provider for the exchange taking it to more like £2800, and then Fedex or whoever charge for paying the VAT for you. So the saving is probably little more than £100 and if there are any issues then you're dealing with a different country.
