Electronics and accessory systems. The stuff for braking, steering, aircon etc will still be in there.

Yeah, I was actually thinking that what folk like Hyundai are doing is more interesting as their actually building relatively efficient electric cars.

I think this is a product of the European full range emissions regulation thing- they’ll be trying to tempt people out of the big 7’s and X5:6’s which will be their biggest CO2 emitters. If they can reduce the number of those they sell it’s better for the brand than reducing the sale of 3 cylinder 1 series……

On my neighbours MG electric. It will be a vastly inefficient use of space, loads of wasted space and badly finished.

I would expect that a £115k BMW will be finished a bit more nicely than a Chinese MG

Good chance that there are high voltage cables etc under there which is why there's no easy access. I guess they figure that there's nothing you can service yourself in there so there's no point in having it open.

It's another reason why Tesla and their clean sheet design are so impressive to me. Everyone else has a normal car shape with less storage than its ICE alternative, Tesla have a normal car shape with vastly more storage areas.

This is the under-bonnet area on the e-tron.

Access to charging cable storage. The floor comes out of that to reveal the jack and inflation kit. The vast majority of this area is therefore taken up by “electrical shizzle”….

Going by E46 BMWs I’d not be so sure

Don't think I could ever bring myself to get a Tesla. If I was to lease something it would be one of the Korean options, if I had tesla money lying around I'd probably pay someone to make something old and interesting electric.

It certainly shifted. A oooge amount of money tho for something so err ugly.

Some of it is Tesla design being very clever, some is that they don't have any weird legacy requirements from historic vehicle development and some is just their cavalier attitude towards quality problems.

I like the interior and..... err.... that's about it.

I saw an iX on the road last week. I hadn't seen the front and just assumed it was an ugly Korean model I'd not heard about.

Agree with the first part of that, it helps the overall vehicles fleet emissions, but I worry that's just so they can keep making niche ICE halo cars rather than improve their CO for the sake of the climate. The Koreans are making them look silly, while the Euro brands try to live off the badge snobbery. They need to get a jiggle on IMO

I saw one of these near Harrods and it looked special.. it’s a great car but at that price I’d struggle to justify it. Of course, now it won Ecoty, prices have firmed up so there are no deals to be had..

I’ll be interested to see how much it’s worth end of the year

I was idly looking at boatshoes classifieds. I get that the CS is improved, but the “standard” competition version with deliver miles is around £90k. There is a CS on there - also with delivery miles - for £170k.

I can help but view this as veeery stoopid. I’d “cope” with a regular comp thanks.
