So I’ve realised I’m not able to keep mice out my car, I’ve decided to put a bit of chicken netting over the HVAC inlet but I’m not sure how to secure it?

We had evidence of rats in the engine bay of our motorhome, no damage that I can see but rat droppings on the engine cover. After reading about various "cures" I sprayed diluted peppermint oil around the engine bay and wheels and bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VKBHH15/re ... item_image

So far there hasn't been any sign of the rat(s) returning.

Sigh, think I've got a wonky earth or a short somewhere, battery flat in the car last night, charged it up, put it in today and the backlights (and incidicators lamp, er, indicators in the dash) weren't working.

Apparently this is more likely to be a short than it is a control module issue, and the car has been a bit damp in the boot lately, so I suppose it's time to clear the car out, sort out the damp, and then check for shorts in the loom through the centre console trim, which apparently is where this commonly occurs.

Getting fucking bored of having a convertible now.

Tried to move trailer. One of the wheels was jammed. Removed drum. Brake lining fell out

I’ve stuck some araldite on there and put it in the oven’s warming drawer to cure

New (pattern) pads are < £50 for a full two axle set so I’ll get some ordered. The araldite will tide me over for moving it around. I rarely actually use the trailer.

I'll slightly take back what I said about ThinkDiag. The software on the manufacturer website isn't the latest version

and you can't download it from the Play Store because it says it's not compatible with the tablet

Having downloaded it from another website and installed it, it now works. It still doesn't work completely - it won't reset the oil service on the Cayenne, it won't read the PDCC (active ARBs), won't read anything but engine/gearbox on the 360 - but it does now read engine & gearbox on the Cayenne along with reasonable plotting of real time data, and reads a few other modules too. So that's one place where the Android software is more comprehensive than the iOS software. They look identical; the iOS version just doesn't read as many modules for some reason.

I still bloody hate Android though. It constantly feels slightly unfinished.

And I've ordered some Nikwax to try out on the cover for the Compact, it's the smallest & lightest cover here so it'll fit in the washing machine. That seems like the minimum-hassle method. Let's see how it goes.

So the cars are testing my patience….

The ML has a brake fluid leak……. So to replace the line and check what I can’t see, incase it’s just as scabby I need to remove the fuel tank (luckily I just filled it so the 95 litres will help it come down) propshaft, heat shields, propshaft, exhaust.

So that’s brake pipe, exhaust clamps, heat shield fixings, a 4 post ramp……

Fuck it, it’s off to a specialist.

The TT was ok enough to drive, coils were being picked up on route as I had a weekend away planned with the wife. Then 5 miles from home the engine died, crankshaft sensor failure. It would instantly start and last all of 10 seconds.

So we limped to my parents and borrowed a Kia Sportage. Apple car play meant better music and sat nav but it was otherwise devoid of any enjoyment whatsoever.

Ho hum.

Exactly. There was good reason to think we'd be needing it quite soon but it wasn't quite guaranteed at that point !

Well, now my wipers, windows and cluster don't work, and the head unit says 'disabled'. Apparently this is a short in the k-bus somewhere.

Perfect timing given I've got a work meeting in five days that involves 100 miles of driving.

I'm done with this car now.

It's almost certainly damp related, but I don't have a garage or a dehumidifier, so, you know, kinda fucked for now, unless pulling the kbus wire fixes it. I'll try that tomorrow, unsurprisingly I'm not in the mood tonight.
