That RM is hideous. It fails at the most basic function - the time isn’t particularly legible at a glance. Good fun trying it though 😃

Mark, you will definitely be able to find better value in pre-owned Breitlings. I’ve not bought used so can’t recommend any dealers though you’re going to find Watchfinder mark up quite a bit. Dom Hackett is regularly recommended on PH and I was in touch with him once; he seems very straightforward. I believe he has premises on Hatton Garden and he will source a watch for you - new with discount or used.

I sold a watch to Dom Hackett a few years back, nice bloke to deal with and he even opened his office on a Saturday for me as that was the only day I could visit.

I bought a used Grand Seiko from https://whizzwatch.co.uk/ in Brighton via ebay. Competitive price and the watch was unmarked so it could be worth dropping them a message.

Sure it wasn't one of these? 😂

Certainly could have been - I was 15 feet away so impossible to tell definitively from that distance.

That said it was an older gentlemen (I expect maybe late 50s early 60s) on his way to Miami flying First Class so I have a suspicion it was a real one
BA or Virgin.. bizarrely, I know people on both flights yesterday and nearly went myself on BA!

Thanks GG. Thing that jumps out at me from that site (two things actually) are the lower costs from APAC sellers (no idea why) and the fact lots of pieces have no boxes and no papers. Not saying that’s dodgy or anything it’s just that I’ve always kept boxes and papers, which seemed logical. Anyway cheers, can lose hours to that site :)

Dom Hackett seems like a specialist if that makes sense so cheers will drop him a note.

Ended up booking late and given prices were extortionate (and its on company dime), I was flying on the BA codeshare with American :?

On the plus side it was out of T3 so I got to use the Cathay lounge which was pretty much empty.

Biggest issue is its bloody raining!!

You can toggle on box and papers to weed out those without. Whether that would bother me depends on the watch - my 1950s Omega obviously had neither, a new perspex crystal and had been heavily polished but for a 70 year old watch and for the money I paid I didn't care and just wanted one that looked presentable. If you're after a 10 year old Breitling I would definitely want a full set.

The APAC market has lower sales taxes so watches generally can be cheaper out there but it also reflects perceived (probably true) risk of dodgy grey market dealers and watches that have had a hard life as luxury watches are very common out there and may have been abused. Also if you're buying from Japan they can't export leather so they'll take the strap off. In the case of a lot of high end watches that would be several hundred pounds to replace.

Enjoyed this review of the best British watches. Quite a few I wasn't aware of (Roger Smith watches are apparently a big deal, Garrick are quite nice, found myself drawn to a pink fears watch as well)

I've bought a new camera recently and took a quick photo of my Seamaster, it's still a great looking watch.

Did you post before about your Seamaster? Mine is the previous ceramic bezel one with plain black face and I pretty much wear it every day. Love it. I thought the first version was a bit over-styled but they got it right when they updated it.

The good people at Marloe (although not good enough for Teddy in the video I posted above  ) have just introduced their new diving range. Giving fifty fathoms vibes which is no bad thing...

10% off first purchase. Not that I am looking to buy a watch at the moment.

Bezel is a bit too thick (meaning the dial looks a bit "squeezed"), but otherwise they look pretty good. Not sure why they are showing all of the options on the nato-esque velcro straps as default  - I kinda like this combo

Agreed about the velcro, a bit too Moon Swatch which makes it look cheap.

I'd go for this...

Can't decide if I like the bubbles on the dial or not. I don't mind a bit of whimsy, but on a £3k watch, I'm not sure it fits well.
