I looked at the trade-in but couldn't pass on the 20k dump on a 2 year old one, albeit before the refresh. Plus trade in was well over 1k lower than Car-point (other alternatives available). My available salary sacrifice really only works if either your in the 60% bracket or don't mind driving a Jaecoo.

Indeed, I have lost a bum-bracing £28k on my nearly 4 year old one.

Tesla knocking them out at 24x£300 is not going to help existing owners but definitely the way I would be getting one now.

On a related note, i’m parked next to a Tesla with some truly tragic graphics - he’s somehow managed to clash with the edges of panels on 3 sides and put the Y in the wrong position on his MODELY SPORT. Surely you’d just take it off and tell yourself to do better.

Tesla depreciation is heavy for three reasons:
1. Elon
2. Elon reducing the new list prices
3. Elon going for market share so supply and demand for used ones is bumped heavily towards supply

Seems appropriate to post this here rather than in the running reports thread. I’d been wondering if my M5 could actually make it to work and back without the engine starting. It’s 21 miles each way the shortest route (currently - it would be a bit shorter but Severn Trent have closed a road for 3 months which cuts a corner off).

Today I thought I was going to do it - arrived back into our village with 1 mile electric range showing and about half a mile to our drive. Then the engine kicked in. Bugger. It turned off again as I pulled into the drive because the electric range had gone up to 2 miles. The app is showing 274.3mpg for the journey which is lovely but I’d rather not start the engine when I’m a minute from home

EV mode - which I’ve set the car to start off in - does allow you to put your foot to the floor and not start the engine so it is genuinely usable as a pure EV for 41 miles at least.

I've played with the configurator a bit. I would get £14,900 for my current car ( ) plus the £3750, so £18650. If I were to hire a model 3 long range awd for three years, I would need to put down £5200 and pay £417 a month. Then I would have a £13450 bump to my savings and could go buy a fun car for say £20,000.

Pros would be the extra range and power and to scratch the two car itch but I'm still not sure it's worth it. Then again is PCPing a £20k fun car a better idea.... Perhpas there are no quick and easy wins here!

Meanwhile I had to chase Tesla about my home charger but they should be replacing it under warranty. The good news is it's an easy swap over from the back plate which is already in place.

I got in a sticky situation today and had to use a non Tesla charger for the first time in 8 years. I knew this BP had one and damn was it expensive

£13 for 13kwh exactly after charging losses as that’s what the car registered which is a real world range added of 39 miles. I figured out at the current petrol prices that it’s the equivalent of 22 MPG.

However we only have one planet which is priceless. I counted 4 horrible people using the petrol pump directly in front of me in the 13 mins I was charging up. They probably got more than 39 miles of range in their fill up, but I bet they didn’t get a warm fuzzy feeling in their loins as they did it.

Maybe you should've left it on charge whilst you were in Chessington World of Adventures?

These electronical vehicles charge so rapidly one doesn’t even have time to get out and relieve themselves! Maybe this is another reason for the warm feeling in my loins.

I may have posted about on here before, but a while back one of the Ford dealers did a promotional article on Facebook about the new capri and a trip to Disneyland Paris.

The money they spent on charging, plus a free charge one night at their hotel worked out at the time as around 26mpg. A figure I’m pretty confident I could have matched in my 20 year old 4.8l V8 x5 on a similar motorway run.

That is the biggest downfall. At home - 8p; the Tesla network isn't too bad - 23-24p off peak, 44p peak but elsewhere is the wild-west.

For my needs 95%+ charging I can do at home so works out favourably at the moment.

Assuming you charge cheaply at home then it's only the long trips and usually you're just doing a bit of a top up rather than filling from empty.

Although France isn't bad at all - we did just under 900 miles in a week around Caen a couple of weeks ago, across the charges on my Electroverse card it was £84.78. The absolute most (Total on the autoroute) was about 60c, topping up at supermarkets is less. Add the 62kwh we started with, home charging at 8p = £4.96. So under 10p a mile or a 70mpg petrol / 80mpg diesel equivalent, at UK average prices - French autoroute stations were way past €2 a litre.

Front is good. I'm not 100% on the yellow lights - seems a throwback to lame incandescents ? Anyway, still much better than the awful Beaver-toothed grilles they've been doing recently.

i don’t hate it, it has aggressive wide arches.

At least the grilles are smaller again.

Back is gopping, this XM design direction is awful.

The way the bodywork lines are on the i3 they will be forced to make a custom rear door skin, they can’t just stick a normal door like they usually do. Maybe that’s why the E30 is there as it’s the only thing I see in common with that!

Front is much better than current cars, but the gaps underneath the lights are too big and out of proportion.

First thing I thought of when seeing the rear
