Yup the felty wheelarch liners are good for noise, both interior and exterior. Exterior tyre noise being very important these days because of the changing homologation specs which really start to hit rolling/coasting noise.

You'll see the compressed fibrous board turn up in engine, trans undershields too. iPace has similar(ish) stuff wrapped right around the front motor.

So we can expect to see cars rusting more quickly again in future?

THe liners are still not dry, despite sitting in the garage now for 4 days.

This seems futile, it’ll get soaked again as soon as it rains?

Still waiting for the bearing press tool to arrive so I can finish off replacing the gearbox mount.

Well, yes. But I need a dry day to zinc primer the treated areas and they get some spray wax on before refitting the liners. Just an observation really

I remember one of the crap aspects of the MPSS was that they perished quickly. Seems like the PS4S is the same in that regard as this set have perished over the summer. It’s not a UV light thing either as it’s almost always parked in an underground carpark or an awning between a building and a wall where direct sunlight can’t hit it.

Got the cluster back in and everything works perfectly. New gear indicator lights look amazing, much better than the incandescent bulbs. Video quality isn't the best as the phone camera doesn't do a good job of compensating for the brightness.

On the way back down from Manchester the Galaxy ticked over 120k miles. Cooling issue is resolved, and it continues to be an effortless (if scruffy) family bus.

All colleague conference. There and back in 24 hours almost to the minute. But I'll be visiting the Manchester office regularly in future, so there will hopefully be opportunities for a beer or two.

That's a bit harsh I think. Apart from the cooling system issue, dicky radio, and the cracked head (which didn't stop us using the car and cost us nothing to fix), it hasn't really let us down in nearly 60k miles/6 years. There's been routine maintenance, but that doesn't count. Unless I'm repressing the memories I don't think it has been a bad or particularly troublesome car.

The ML hit 150,000 yesterday. Celebrated by a service where the wife helped. The 10th in our ownership. New discs and pads all round before Christmas.

Suspension is fine but still some tidying up to do to the exterior.

A gate blew into the bumper a while back that needs repairing so due to marks and dings I’ll have the drivers side sprayed, bonnet and bumper done.

Also getting new xenon projectors for the headlamps as I’ve seen some improved ones, the headlights on this are great but they do fade over time despite new bulbs.
Steering wheel sent to Royal and I think I’ll finally fit some back boxes for a better burble.

Then just drive it. It regularly has a bike rack, roof box etc on and both dogs in the back. Still gets a move on and rides brilliantly. I’d like a C7 RS6 but it isn’t as practical for the dogs, a GL would be great but the few 500 models I saw years ago were London school run cars and the interiors were trashed. Just nothing about which has the all round ability without massively increased running costs.

Here is hoping for 200,000.

I like the idea of a GL but I'd want a 420/450. Big cars need big torque and that's where a big turbot diesel excels. Also the fuel consumption is slightly less horrific.

Finally got the new press tool yesterday and put the car back together. It’s not a fun job and not one I’m in a hurry to do again. The internet reckons the gearbox bush lasts about ten years so maybe I will need to do it again ??



This shows how much higher the gearbox now sits. It was rubbing against the undertray. It’s now a good half inch clear.
