Highest failure rate for scoring on 7.1s was with the Tip box as they pull away in second putting extra torque demand on the engine - so chocolate car with chocolate engine. I'd pass.

Prevalence of major engine failure in M96/97 engines is grossly exaggerated on the internet.
I recall reading a bulletin from an engine builder possibly Hartech that they estimated it to be sub 5% and when you factor in short journey cars and those with lack of or poor maintenance it would be miniscule!

There was a Rubystar Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 in the showroom at the Porsche dealer yesterday. I preferred it to the GT silver 718 Spyder which they had in. I think it's a slightly more vibrant pink than Rubystone on the old 964RS but it's still fapping lovely.

30 of those 45 are tiptronics out of 254 autos for sale so a failure rate of c.12%.

If you include the 150 or so 986/986S with zero rebuilds listed and the 220 987 derivatives with only 2 rebuilds in the advert the incidence looks less alarming at circa 5%.

Also, as I mention above, the number of Boxsters that would have been worth a 10k rebuild rather than scrapped would be fewer than 911s so the scrapped percentage you would expect to be higher.
Were the 2 987s 3.4s / autos out of interest?

No both manual, a 3.2 and a 3.4.
I appreciate your point that auto's are more prevalent to failure but feel manual well maintained 986/996's are ridiculously cheap and a great deal of this is due to internet folklore.
You look at Honda S2000's and 3l Z3 starting to be coveted and Boxster's are still viewed as shonky!

Are they ? I looked on Autotrader the other day and ignoring all the undesirables (autos, convertibles, and 4WD ones) the cheapest 996 was £15k. That's about 50% up from a few years ago. And more like £20k for something decent.
