Yes, I went for a tethered one. The cable is entirely external and hangs on a separate hook. I can confirm that the 8m cable feels at least twice as long as a 5m cable but if you park so as to need its length, it's a pain to pick back up. We need auto-spooling cables.

Oh, and if you do go for one, don't be boring like me - I chose Cheltenham Grey for both the sides and centre panel because I wanted it to be unobtrusive. And it is, but I think it looks nicer with a contrasting centre bit.

Not quite as good looking with the tethered cable, but you don't want untethered for a home unit..... Shame it's not a double-ended "wind around" as opposed to just a hanger.

8m cable is good - our Zappi has a 6.5m cable as std (but you can apparently order and fit upto 25m.... which would be a lot of cable to wind).

We have a hozelock auto retract/lockable mounted reel that handles 25m of hose, so could probably be adapted to handle a charging cable?

It might look neat when wound up but it's no easier to wind it up than with the Quartz and its separate hook I assume?

We have an Andersen A2 and Mrs Holley often can't be bothered to wind it back up and just leaves it tangling on the floor

Some kind of cool alloy wheel would be perfect.

It’s the new thing for manufacturers - Tesla, BMW new class, Rimac, they’re combining all modules into a few very high performance ones. On an EV they save some weight and gain range but I’m not sure how good it is for future serviceability. Say your GPS system goes offline, it’s no longer a simple module you can pick up and swap but a whole board comprising 1/3 of your cars function which must then all be coded…

Depends on how they've designed it. There's no reason that the modules within the enclosure can't be modular and hanging off a shared backplane.

The ones I’ve seen so far have just been like the board from a laptop. Single high performance CPU running the whole show.

Tesla are adding £3750 to any trade-in at the moment as an incentive. It does make the prospect of upgrading to a long-range AWD quite tempting.

(wall charger still broken btw, waiting to hear on warranty claim)

The flipside is that if you have fewer module, using more standard hardware (IE Ryzen Embedded CPUs which have a longer manufacturing and support life) then it should help solve the problem of module ECUs stopping being made a few years after the car is off sale, etc.

And if they're running embedded linux rather than something proprietary like a compiled VXWorks system, then possibly more hackable once someone with incentive gets their hands on one and starts getting in the guts of it...

I looked at the trade-in but couldn't pass on the 20k dump on a 2 year old one, albeit before the refresh. Plus trade in was well over 1k lower than Car-point (other alternatives available). My available salary sacrifice really only works if either your in the 60% bracket or don't mind driving a Jaecoo.
