As I might be doing more long miles again, the idea of chopping it in for something with a fixed roof (or, as there's so many about, an E92 convertible with a metal folding roof) is kinda tempting. Just to get the road noise down a bit.

Decisions, decisions, etc.

I think both of you are seriously overestimating my budget, and the size of my mates driveway which would be my most regular destination. 5-series is the max size I'd go to, and £10k is the absolute upper limit I'd want to spend, and even that would involve a loan (which I can at least now afford to cover etc).

Yes, I did look at 750/760s, but then looked at the tyres - which are £300 a corner for non-ditchfinders.

Naaaah

Whoever spec'd that up gave zero fucks about resale value or had a custard fetish.

I require @Jobbo to state his position on this. The interior, not the custard fetish.

Engine mounts done on the 928 - Can you tell which are the old mounts and which are the new ones?

Honestly if I had just a bit more cash rolling about I would be sorely tempted. It's met reserve at £15k as well.

Oh, snap. Engine mounts are my job for tomorrow morning. The internet reckons it's a fairly easy job once you've got the undertray off.

Doesn't that imply that getting the undertray off will be a right ache in the nethers? As in "I changed the engine mounts in less than 10 minutes, it was easy. All in it took nine hours because of the flippin' undertray".

Taking undertrays off is easy, refitting them however is a sodding cunt.

I thought the same. It’s not as if it’s a 20k miler.

Correct, my words are always chosen carefully ;)

In a lovely (not) piece of forward thinking by the designers, you can't remove the undertray when the car is on a lift because the undertray goes around the jacking points. And you can't remove the undertray when the car is on the ground because you can't get at it. So you need to do a kind of halfway house with the wheels up on blocks of wood to give you just enough access.

I'm actually going to put it off until tomorrow; I'd forgotten my parents are due here for lunch at midday and my Dad hasn't seen the car yet. He will be disappointed if we can't go for a drive.

Drives door handle carrier done. Old one wasn’t actually broken, I guess the cable had stretched or something because it definitely didn’t feel like it should. It now does.

Also greased up the latch mechanism, did a better repair on the vapour membrane, and fixed the light tube for the illuminated door release.

Then changed the back four spark plugs and ignition coils so now have a full matching set of both. Previously there were 4 different brands of coil scattered around!

Oh, and repaired some of the cracked engine cover plastics and took the throttlebody off and cleaned that out.
