I wonder if Porsche has had to change the interest rate on the finance already agreed and so has also been forced to offer deposits back? Or have Porsche offered low reservation fees and then people have pulled before deposit needs paying in full? Plenty of other manufacturers are offering online reservation of £100..

My friend gets 250 miles of usable range in his 4S CT, it’s probably plenty for most people. And I used a Supercharger last week in a Polestar 2; pretty good/ fast enough, they just need to realise that not everyone lives in California and so maybe some cover from the shitty British weather would be beneficial when plugging in a 250kW cable

The only anecdotal evidence I have relevant to this point is that when I was looking at minis for my wife last year, they did make the point that we could have a car on the forecourt or order one… but if we did order one, the finance rate would not be fixed until closer to delivery. I imagine Porsche will be the same and may well have revised their rates upwards significantly for people that made orders 7 / 8 months ago.

From a banking perspective, if a customer can walk away from the deal just losing their deposit, you’d never lock in their finance rate months in advance as you would have to put a hedge in place for that and if you had to break it because they pulled out of the deal then you would be out of pocket, potentially significantly…

Dealers will return deposits unless they are at a financial loss or at risk of it i.e a really oddball spec too late to change.

I've cancelled one and almost cancelled another in 2008 as I was paying list price for a car I'd ordered 18 months prior and getting cold feet due to the recession! Dealer Principal was great, his view was we're in the business of selling cars not taking people to court or retaining deposits.

The Taycans may be salary sacrifice lease cars that were silly cheap 12 months ago. Those schemes would be much more expensive now and people will be less likely to be so extravagant with inflation/interest rates as they are.

New thermostat needed, classic symptom of running cold on steady cruise, warming up again when stationary.

I always assumed the matt black on the b-pillar was a vinyl decal. It definitely was on my blue 1995 compact because it had started cracking and I peeled it off. Looks like they just painted it satin black on later cars. I painted over it rather than leave a hard masking line, but think I’m going to use some vinyl to make it black again as it doesn’t look quite right painted.

In other news, I managed to completely kill the battery by leaving the ignition on for an entire day. Even after an all night charge it wouldn’t start the car. It’s what came with the car and always been a bit iffy as well as smaller than the one it’s supposed to have, so boshed in a bosch. Shame they have to make them so ugly. Almost bought a black Halfords one which I could have de-stickered.



I’m getting more confident with my painting, I’ll definitely do the golf and e36 myself. Will wait and see when I get there whether I’m confident enough to do the e30!

If 250 miles of range had been realistic, I’d have got a Taycan Cross Turismo. I think that’s very optimistic though; perhaps if you hypermile on a warm sunny day.

Yes the standard holding deposits on pre-owned are also fixed. Weirdly I asked to pay more than the standard £3k when reserving the car so I could just put the balance on finance rather than making more payments for the deposit but they wouldn’t let me!

I really like the Taycan Cross Turismo and would kind of consider one as a replacement for the RR but disappointing the range is not great. Realistically I’d want more like 300 as trips back to visit family up north would be 175ish miles from home with no detours so if it will only do a true 200ish then that would be cutting it fine. Of course you can always recharge en route but would be annoying to have to do so.

I think you’ve both read the initial reviews and ignored it since 2020!

At -10oC combined is still 215 miles and at 23oC it’s 295.

A quick google shows 245-250 to be the average, plus my friend has real world experience of driving his daily… and says he gets 250 miles

ETA: the googling brought up the Audi E-tron GT offer from Audi - £5k off list, over £6k deposit contribution (if financed through Audi) plus a charger installed/extra £500 off. 9.9% apr

I’ve been following the 56 page Taycan Cross Turismo thread on PH. It’s in winter that the range is really hit, and apparently there’s a very common issue where the heater doesn’t work (hey, that probably helps range!).

240 miles range from a 100kWh battery pack in summer is still pretty crap.

Only reserve with it is the Model 3 P (which by all accounts is gets more range than the Taycan) will only go a maximum of 220 miles now - it was closer to 250 miles when new.
In winter it will struggle to do a return trip to Folkestone - London and back as last year it was making the trip with sub 10% range remaining. With another 20,000 miles on the battery it may not do it this year which would be a mighty inconvenience.

So that’s another thing if you are the type of person who keeps a car long term/high miles.

After I got home from picking up the thermostat yesterday I had a chat with my line manager and negotiated a change of terms such that I will have a LOT more time to work on the car, starting at the end of next week. Perfect timing with the (hopefully) good summer weather coming.

The 360 -> 430 update was all about the engine. A change from 3.6 litres to 4.3 litres. See where the model name comes from now ?

Ferrari's model naming is always logical, but sometimes a bit convoluted. The 355 was 3.5 litres, 5 valves per cylinder. In the 456 each cylinder displaces 456cc. Those are the two I remember, I CBA Googling the rest right now.

The 360 was the last iteration of the Dino engine that dates back to the fifties. The 430 had a totally new engine with an extra 90bhp, but offset by the car gaining 150kg. Still a decent power/weight improvement.
