Vodafone are offering me £60 per month (normally £70) with £79 upfront for the 64GB (which is big enough for me) iPhone XS Max, with my 6S Plus as trade-in. Reckon will take that.
So no, actually, they're not. Bastard online support people getting their facts wrong,
again. And I'm not giving 70 quid to Vodafone every month. So off to EE we go next month we thinks.

I think my iPad is the most used device I own - email, web, reading, streaming video etc. And with a keyboard I use it for lots of other stuff that I'd normally need a laptop for, its a nice device to work on.
I'm thinking of ditching the X and getting an XR(3i). Bigger battery life, pretty much identical specs to the X, much cheaper and nice colours.

Are the new phones in the Apple stores yet to have a look?

It was initially £279 but we were so used to free handsets on £20/month contracts.
And the App Store didn’t exist so it didn’t do more than any other phone, just through a touch screen.
Yep, you came in to store, gave us £279, then went home and chose your plan then did the credit check all via iTunes. We loved it as it made out lives VERY easy

I’m with Three on a £17pcm unlimited data, texts and 200mins calls contract. Each month they tell me how much I’ve saved in roaming fees : last three months £2.3k, £2.8k & £2.9k! Even if they’re worst-casing the costs, I reckon I’m quids in!
I do however buy a new phone outright every couple of years. Dixon’s airside saves me about £100 per purchase, plus points to let the wife buy shit when she travels with me.
The thing I love most about the X is the battery life, how much more battery does a LED screen use compared to the X’s OLED?

Uses less I think hence the XR battery life is better?

Who actually uses a phone as a phone anymore anyway? I very rarely make or receive any calls.
Having recently gone through the PAC code dance (switching Voda-Giffgaff-Voda because the best deal was for new customers on Voda and I was already with them) there's a lot to be said for this. Make SIMs data-only, no allocated phone number and you can use your number as your ID for Whatsapp calls or whatever - a non-proprietary phone app would be the ideal for anyone who does still speak to people.
It's called an iPod Touch...

So who has their new iPhone then? I’m enjoying my Xs Max, the Face ID is very slick and the camera is bloody amazing.
Some weird wasted space below the keyboard though. Emoji button and voice recognition button take up an entire row. Seems odd.

I've got my XS now. Coming from the 7, it's definitely a much bigger phone. It was a pain having to log back to every app again. Also I've found my banking app just crashes as soon as you open it
Not played with the camera much, but portrait mode is pretty cool. Also found FaceID is definitely slower in the dark, seems to want to think about unlocking.
Learning the new gestures wasn't too bad, but a bit of a learning curve from the home button.

First Direct? Same. They're on it, apparently.

I think it’s their best yet
Supports anything from 5S upwards, and seems to make everything feel much slicker
Certainly an improvement from 11, which I was never a fan of
Would recommend

Yeah First Direct. Ok that’s good then. Pretty annoying!

The First Direct app is having a bit of a hard time on my Google Pie'd Pixel too. Sometimes doesn't want to try to login. Only sometimes though.

If anyone has an iPhone 8 Plus and wants one of the excellent Mous carbon fibre cases (
https://uk.mous.co/) then I have one going spare. £20 posted.

I had a play with the XS and Max yesterday in an Apple Store. Nice enough but they didn’t make the 8 next to them look old. How long until the XR is out?

October 19th for preorder
October 26th release
I think it’s going to be the big seller

I have decided to stick with my iPhone 7 for another twelve months. The discounts on the X are only £100 or so, the XS is very nice but it’s hard to justify £1200 on a iPhone when my current one works just fine and the only real difference for me is the camera and the screen (and the nicety of wireless charging)
I’ll see what the 11 is like next year.
