It probably is, but it's still based on a percentage of the cost. It's down to £1.16 here so not a million miles away from a quid, and the price of crude is really tanking.

Wow that's cheap, where are you? Asda is 124 here.

If it gets to 1.10 I can use one of those 10p off per litre Tesco vouchers and cheat my way to £1 a litre!

It's down to 117.9 here at Tesco, although the 99 was still at 124.9, I'm sure they used to pin it at 5p more in the past. Still, it's a small benefit of the current crisis.

No we aren't. Are you getting mixed up with the extensive privatisation that occured under New Labour?
My apologies, under the blue and red tories.

??

Fuel duty is a flat rate per litre (source) (currently 57.95p per litre for petrol or diesel). VAT is the element that is a percentage of the cost.

So if the unit price drops to ~ 25p/ litre from the current ~ 39p then petrol will be a quid at the pump.

It's probably not very likely, but it's not beyond the realm of all possibility given the way crude has tanked.

Slight thread derailment but here's a bit of reading for you:

It only covers the last ten years, but it's a start.

 The NHS hospitals I’ve had the pleasure of being chucked around in all had private wings (Chelsea and Westmin, Royal Marsden, Royal Brompton) - mainly used by well off foreign patients who came here because they wanted better treatment from what I could see rather than locals - indeed all the ward signs are in both English, Arabic and Chinese in those sections.

They’re actually a benefit though as their private wings actually make good money which funds the whole hospital. Expensive equipment such as MRIs are shared by both the private and NHS section, you have the same surgeons and it acts as spare overflow for the NHS. When they didn’t have space for me I ended up being treated in the private wing for probably half my stay.

I spend about £1200/week on diesel for my removals business so every 10 pence drop saves me about £100/week :?

No surprise really. I'm pretty sure someone has also been blaming it on the Jew spiking bottles of Coca Cola. Yip, you read that right.

I was out in Newcastle last night and they've clearly decided its all fake news going by the total lack of hygiene on display by blokes in loos.
