Big heavy steel ones are a joy to use if you don’t need it to be particularly portable.

Every time I use my £120 Sealey one I wonder why I spent so many years mucking about with narrow wobbly £30-£40 ish ones?

Seems they’re around £150 now, but it’s great. Incredibly stable, easily low enough to get under my muppet cars but lifts hight enough to get the x5 well clear of the ground.

I’m sure a lot of jacks like a lot of other tools are made by one or two factories with different brands adding their own colours and stickers. I’m sure sgs probably do their own very similar ones

The Porky one is all fixed and running well

It was a gear linkage cable, the old one just went/snapped - it wasn't wear and tear, just "one of those things"

Had the work done by a reasonably local, but very well regarded Porsche specialist

While they had it, I also got them to do their full inspection, a major service, and replaced all the brakes - so it was quite a big bill, but way cheaper than the main dealer would have been

The only niggle now is that one of the exhaust valves has seized/rusted shut - they tried to free it, but couldn't

Unfortunately, you can't replace the valve, you need a new rear silencer which is about £3k

So I'll have to live with that!
I'm sure it sounds pretty good despite a stuck valve ;) I had a sit in that era of Boxtster GTS when new and always liked them 8-) Glad it's running well

<Key change>Alas mine is less well, Dan of this parish very kindly came over and gave his diagnosis this afternoon. Unfortunately we have some bent valves courtesy of the garage not doing up the crankshaft pulley bolt up to the correct torque :!:

The pulley was able to move on the crankshaft which has gouged both the pulley and the crankshaft, which means a new crankshaft as well as new valves. New crankshaft pulley on the left, old gouged one on the right:

Going to give the garage a call and see what they say on Mon. Not entirely sure I want them to have a crack at an engine stripdown and rebuild when they forgot to tighten a rather key part during a relatively simple cambelt change :?

Balls. Bit of a schoolboy error for pros - but a bloody painful one. Good luck Chris.

Chris, if you want any help in dealing with the garage who did the work, let me know.

Fuck, that's shit @speedingfine . If it was me and they're accepting of the fuck up and want to make it right, I'd give them the chance. After all, they're likely to try really hard to not fuck it up... and everybody should be allowed to make one mistake.

If they decide to be dicks about it, I suggest you jobbown them followed by a ruinous social media campaign.

Yeah that’s a bit of a catastrophic mistake on a key torque figure.

Cheers folks. May well take you up on the offer again SJJ, getting a distinct sense of deja vu given I dealt with similar on the yellow 7!

Aaaand…., pictures?

Hopefully that’s a small enough change at the front that it doesn’t mess up the steering feel. :geek:
Handles just like it did, looks much better... Or should I say "looked" so much better as they're off. The fronts are rubbing, not even on full lock. That could be because I've got 20" wheels rather than 19" at the front, but am getting lots of different views on M3 sites as to what will work and what won't - but not everyone seems to say if they've had to modify anything to stop the rubbing.

More research needed but have got a lot of miles planned this week so have just removed them. So glad I bought that low entry trolley jack people recommended. Really makes it a skoosh.
Cheers,

Mike.

I'd love one, but don't have the space to store it, nor the space to use it realistically

So after the alarm saga and not feeling the love, the 500e got picked up to go into storage at a facility down south.

This is despite it driving amazingly well, but wondering if it will start pissed me off and I think I need a period away from cars for a bit.

I’ve been given the green light to get an RS6 but I think it’s only being said as she knows I don’t have the money sat there right now 😂😂
