Ah, well that's reassuring.
F11 5-series have come down in price lately (or maybe I've only just noticed), maybe a 535d/i of those would be comfy and quiet enough for my distinctly-lacking-in-backroads driving these days.

Beany, having driven a few F10/F11s, I'd say don't bother with the 535i. I'd have a 530d over one now. The rarity makes it seem appealing but the engine just isn't torquey enough so it feels a bit more feeble than you'd expect for >300bhp. Whereas there are plenty of 530ds around, they are less likely to have been owned by muppets than the 535d and they still feel decently quick.

I've used the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic and I'm a real fan. It definitely keeps a good wax topped up, and is a piece of piss to apply. That reminds me that I need some more!

That Crossfire is the SRT which shared the Merc SLK32 AMG's supercharged engine. Always seemed faster than the claimed power.
I see those Infinitis from time to time; always being driven badly by someone who clearly hates their car. Can't see how they can be recommended. Surely a 350Z or 370Z is under £10k?

The Volvo is a left field choice and can be made to sound rather nice with some exhaust mods. You can then also claim to share an engine(ish) with the Noble M600.

I've just dumped money into wing mirrors, I wonder how much a Maserati one would cost, given I park on the street
Mate of mine had a 350Z, and it rusted like buggery - not sure I'd trust even a newer one to not get all tinwormy. Had enough of that in my life
Outback *is* interesting, I'll grant you - are the interiors less shit these days? The Bugeye WRX I looked at would have made a Fisher Price Chatter Telephone blush with how godawfully cheap and plastic it was.
It was more of a thought experiment anyway, so don't over think it - honestly I'm not keen on taking out a loan for a car (no, I don't have £10k saved up) at this stage either, despite the fact that I objectively have no reason to think the current job is going to go sideways, etc - just good old fashioned paranoia
