ZedLeg wrote: Fri Apr 19, 2019 9:32 am Apparently UKIP's latest desperate clutch at relevancy is to go for the shitty youtube edgelord fans. It's a bold move.

I found this fascinating and regularly watch Sargon and the Thinkery channels (not some much dankula although I've watched a couple of his videos). I think Carl is correct that the old skool media have a particular issue in the fact that the average person on the street doesn't trust them and get a far more balanced view from the various Youtubers (unless of course you are a rabid leftist of course).
We definitely live in an interesting time where we seem to be experiencing a shift from traditional media commentators to the bite-size watch at your own leisure lot and the old guys are definitely being left behind in the dust. I can only see this gap increasing as commentators increase their subscriptions from the hoards of gen Z's that only consume Youtube or Netflix and totally ignore the BBC, CH4, ITV and even Sky as they become interested in the political side of society.
You have to think that these guys bring is several million followers that watch their videos daily and have approached UKIP and not the other way around to ally themselves on that side of the fence. This is quite coop for UKIP as they now have about 20x the youtube viewers of all the other parties combined without doing anything.

Well I disagree that you get anything like a balanced view of the world from folk like Carl.

The best thing about this is that pulling them out of their wee echo chamber seems to be exposing them as the cretins they are.

You assume incorrectly, I don’t really know anything about her.

I just think the likes of Carl, PJW etc are giant arseholes.

Usually the only thing people know about Sargon is that tweet and decided he's an arsehole on that alone, which unless you'd seen the full video of the parliament committee session you'd not know the context in which it was made and the irony behind it.

To be fair I do find them all overly combative and really prefer Tim Pool on the whole, but we don't really have anyone of that type in the UK yet or not that I've seen yet anyway. I do however find the MSM in this country are larger arseholes than Sargon, PJW and Dankula put together. That said I do still read BBC everyday over breakfast and then quite often during the day watch a few videos from alternative sources to counter the Bolshevism from auntie. So when I say balanced I meant you have to watch the lot and read the MSM to try and draw a balanced conclusion yourself.

My problem with this argument is that even as a joke or satire (or whatever excuse he had) telling a woman that he wouldn't even rape her is a thoroughly shitty thing to do.

And is laughing about having a detate in parliament about mens issues (mental health included) a good thing to do?

IMO it was a really cunty thing to do, now whether she understood what she was laughing at it could be she didn't know what was going to be said later, it was highly disrespectful and if Philip Davies had laughed at her in the same context there would have been hell to pay.

No it wasn’t appropriate to that discussion but one thing doesn’t excuse the other, they can both be wrong. This whataboutism and endlessly trying to score points on “the other side” is part of what’s wrong with these types of YouTube shouters.

Fucking exactly this. "Oh, you think x? Then you must think y, too!". Fuck off.

However one is in a position of power and an elected representative of the people and the other is just a Youtuber.

One can be an idiot if they like the other should not.

Dismissing the issue with the 2 wrongs and right argument is nearly as bad as the old hollering 'racist' trick in the hope of shutting down any discussion through fear of being made a social pariah. It may have been a childish and improper comeback but there is an issue with the representative attitude that needs discussing and not sweeping under the carpet. She seems to get and easy ride in the media #because feminism and didn't apologise at all and just tried to hurriedly backtrack when realising her gaffe. Where the Youtuber get's harassed at every Q&A over the same old shit.

Carl.

Hmm, that would seem very similar to a round of prime ministers questions, always seems to be oneupmanship and point scoring over the others, with lots of jeering and shouting from the back benches.

Is there anything else though, you mention this type of 'youtuber', but haven't offered alternatives yet I guess?

I don't mind watching other channels as points are good to see different viewpoints over, but most stuff goes on recommendation initially and then if you watch the content regularly the algorithms will kick in and offer more of the same.

They just waste time though, he won't rise to it, they know it but they ask the same dumb questions instead of asking question on actual issues or policy. The politician is never questioned at all about the equally stupid and callous shit she did, it's just a double standard.

My alternative is to look around and see the world isn't the way that these cranks try and portray it from their basements.

It's a job for them. Churn out content that appeals to a certain type of person and get them to pay your bills through crowdfunding.

It bears as much relation to the real world as what David Icke says.

How do you view the world then? I guess you don't walk around looking at stuff and asking questions and it would take a fucking long time, so you probably get it via the BBC et al.
Which is no different to a youtube commentator, they earn money, they have an agenda also it's just in an old skool direction. The BBC is supposed to be unbiased but it's blatantly not and the rest all just tout for adverts and take money from big corps, which is probably worse than crowdfunding.
