Schools are closed now, so daughter has finished for summer. It’s not even that hot, just a bit sweaty.. so long as you drink plenty of water you’ll all survive!

Ooof, I bet a few people today wish they'd fixed their aircon a few months ago and brimmed their tank. At least being in an air conditioned bubble while stuck there would be bearable, but being stuck on the motorway, in a greenhouse, in this heat, with the engine off would be fucking awful.

Awoken by thunder, and yet still no bloody air movement.

Thunder and rain started here. So far humidity is on the up and that’s about it. Bedroom currently reading 28C

I was up at 3.30 this morning and could see lightning flashes but no rain or thunder so it must’ve been pretty far away. Cloudy now though, looking at the risk profile of cycling through a thunder storm

Never seen anything like it, thunder so loud it was shaking the glasses in the kitchen cupboards at times and massive lightning from about half six through to 3 or so this morning.

We got a shout where some unlucky person's chimney took a lightning strike, splitting the big stack in half (along with a poor seagull who was having a nice sleep), then into their loft, melting their water tank and splitting the mains water supply in half so you can imagine the mess.

We've got a rugby pitch at the bottom of our garden and the goalposts were struck by lightning a few years back. That was just a very very loud BANG which scared the crap out of me and a friend who was here at the time. It also turned the alarm control box into a smoking mess

It’s quite common to see trees in woodland that have been struck. I milled one a few years ago but the wood was totally unusable. A lot of the growth rings inside the tree had completely separated from each other so the whole thing was like splitting an onion with the layers coming apart.

I'm jealous of the storm (though not the damage). Back up over 30 degrees here by 9am.

I was due to collect hay this weekend, but the farmer messaged yesterday to say I need to do it today by the latest as it will rain on Saturday.
I was trying to avoid manual labour on the hottest day so far…

Both sides operate independently. So I did the other side first, crossed to this side, and just as that clip finishes and it’s up it flashes red so I put it down again, wait a while for the train to pass. Repeat the process. Run to the car to drive across and just as I get out to lower it again it’s flashing red. Some evil version of network rail roulette
