I'd had a few free beers and offered to buy it. £40k apparently, except he can't sell it yet anyway as it belongs to Ducati until they've finished with it.

Other than that kind of stuff, as someone used to cars, bikes seem so stupidly cheap. I keep going into the showrooms near me and can't believe how relatively cheap stuff is.

My CBR600RR is on sale for 5k. That's a 3 seconds to 60, 170 mph bike that's a couple of years old with less than 10k miles on it. Without spending a penny on it you could chuck it at any track day or ride it on the road every day, and it'll never go wrong because Honda.

Get that license done Ste, it's time now. Bikes are awesome. The end.

The only thing is to watch out for is people not expecting to see a 120 mph missile while they do a u turn in the middle of the road on a sunday morning.

BMW just let me down. I knew I was low on petrol, so nipped out at lunch while traffic was quiet to fill up. The gauge was showing it was on the last block, and the OBC was showing 16 miles remaining. I've had it down to zero before now with no issues so didn't have any range anxiety. It conked out quarter of a mile from work and half a mile from the petrol station. Grrr. I had to get one of my team to come and bring me a jerry can. Maybe this is a sign?

I did it a couple of times: once when I was 16 on my Honda C50. Old motorbikes have a fuel tap with 3 positions: On, Off and Reserve. On is obviously On, Off is obviously off for when it's parked up, and Reserve is there for you to switch to when the tank runs low so you know to fill up (no gauges or a fuel light in those days). So, on my way to school one morning the bike spluttered, so I put it on Reserve, got to school, parked up and turned the fuel off. Later that day, going home, I'd forgotten that I had switched to Reserve so switched the tap to On and set off. After a few miles of running on the fuel in the float bowl (110mpg ftw), it spluttered so I changed it over to Reserve. I'd already passed my usual petrol station but knew I had plenty of fuel to get to the next one. Except I didn't, because I'd forgotten I'd used half the Reserve range in the morning and so ended up stranded in the middle of nowhere.

The second time was when I had my RF900R in Amsterdam. I'd filled it up the day I bought it. After a week or so of commuting a few miles a day, it spluttered so I turned the tap to Reserve but it still conked out and wouldn't restart. turns out the previous owner had replaced the fuel pipes at some point and connected them the wrong way round so it was on Reserve the whole time (there's no Reserve tank, it's just a fuel pickup lower in the tank than the On pipe).

Today makes 3 (that I can remember).

I'm a moron, I do it fairly regularly.

Bikes are the business really. But if I was me I'd look at getting a track 2 wheeler than something that will lose my licence or kill me on the roads.

People talk about getting one for years then, once they do, cars seem less relevant. Unless you're a poser.

It is. It’s like a fricking oil tanker, yet it’s surprisingly agile and doesn’t feel long or heavy in the corners.
