Indeed - don’t rely on other people’s opinions of cars. It’s easy enough to go out for a day and line up a few to check out. That’s where trade sales come in handy, they’re in all day - they’ll invariably be shit examples, but good to go and view without the hassle of trying to tie up diaries with a private sale.
Popping out to sniff around a few today. The one I think I want (a facelift 330ci coupe) is the furthest away, so I'll go there first then backtrack past a few others, ending up in...er...Bradford.
I'm probably doing it wrong, but hey, that's not different to the usual, eh?

Jesus.
Poor bastards.
Beany turning up to kick tyres/talk about MAF/ask 'is it faster than a yellow Puma?'.

They're pretty fast alright.
Had a look at a ropey facelift coupe, it's cheap, but for a reason. Felt a bit baggy even compared to the Mondeo. Quick though, once you remember you can go past 4000rpm...
Poked around a very nice pre facelift ragtop. Guy selling it is obviously into his BMWs and out was going to be 'his' car, but he's got an M3 so doesn't need this one. Low miles, good nick. Didn't drive it as it was at the back of his barn, but he could talk the talk in a manner that strongly suggests he can walk the walk when it comes to E46s...
Gonna have a look at a pre face lift coupe just now (just waiting for the main guy to get back) and then swift half, and back up north.

Last one the most honest; being cleaned up, new mirror fitted, new wing (when patching up the rust on the tips, and when you have trade contacts, replacing the wrong costs little more than patching it and is going to be known good), etc.
Offered less for the Mondeo than I'd like, but then so did everyone

he was also another e46 fan, turning up in his 2005 e46 330ci...
Getting a bit late to hit the Bradford stuff, but overall a pretty interesting day. Get home, get some beer and back at it tomorrow.

That I believe he knows and likes his e46s.

Given I don't have £4k burning a hole in my pocket, what did you expect?
Anyway, I'm mostly into
this at the moment.
Descriptions of 'average' are compared to the rest of the stuff he had hidden in the barn (none of it listed on AT), including a Maserati Spyder (which it was parked behind), 997 Turbo S, and a few other interesting pieces, all of which were proper fucking immaculate.
The above has a few light scratches that have been penned in, some slightly worn leather, but it looks like a genuine mileage car; all the stamps, full tookit/first aid kit, etc (which is more than can be said for anything else I looked at). No rust anywhere that I could see including having a good squint under it with a torch, everything works as it should, no ticking from the window regulators, hood works perfectly fine, engine is quiet and smooth at tickover etc etc - all the good signs.
For the money, it looks pretty alright to my eyes...

Imagine the women you could pull with that. Y’know, if you weren’t you.

If it flies, floats or fucks, rent it.

Silver & black = correct. Buy it. We’ll figure out the details later.

It looks a lot better in the metal than I expected, to be honest. The E46 really is the last good looking BMW - that is it looks good without qualification.

Please start a new thread Dave; I fear that will require a whole new internet of questions.

It does.
And the salesman not only talks the talk but also apparently walks the walk too.
When it comes to e46s anyway.
