I may be peculiar about this but I am very particular about not leaving any coils in the cable when it is charging.
The current in these is probably insufficient to create any significant resistance and heating but I figure it is good practice.

I assume the charging is AC rather than DC at home so that’s a good point. I will see if my wife runs over the cable when I unravel it 😄

Whereas I leave ours with as many coils remaining on the charger as possible to minimise the trip hazard. :)

My wifes Kodiaq PHEV is a revelation. 70 miles on a charge means she hasn't needed to put petrol in it since it was delivered 1200 miles ago and there's still 2/3's of a tank in there.

I was very on the fence with small battery PHEVs as they appear to be company car tax dodgers rather than usable electric range but that's not always the case now and hopefully Government Policy may allow for cars with substantial electric range.

The Vauxhall Ampera was a marvel when it came out but just wasn’t popular, a shame as it’s the perfect car for non car people.

Talking to someone at Porsche today and they were saying that (obviously) for any used EVs they're buying the buyer has to inspect the underside and if there's any hint of a dent or mark, it needs to be up on a ramp and inspected before they can confirm an offer as they've been stung with too many damaged batteries to replace at a cost of circa 30K a car.

3mm dent is the limit for Porsche I believe - the undertray is a flimsy bit of soft aluminium so general debris could dent it.

Why don’t they just run a diagnostic check on the battery? :?

I expect it’s the same reason they push to replace all the suspension when there’s buckled alloy wheel.

Would diagnostics show anything up? I'm assuming those are testing for battery health, would that show any physical damage which has the potential to degrade health or compromise it at a later date? Genuinely no idea.

I was viewing it from the opposite angle : that if there was physical damage significant enough to impact battery health/performance - it should show up on a diagnostic. That would seem like a more accurate assessment tool than an arbitrary dent depth?

What if it compromises the waterproofing of the battery structure so eventually you get gradual moisture ingress which after a year or two kills the battery? (That’s what happens on the Model S)

What if there is a 3.1mm dent in the floor that wipes £2.5k off the value of your trade-in, but the stealership cunningly ignores it at the point of resale to n+1 customer. And if it does fail 2yrs later they shrug their shoulders and say it was obviously fine when they sold it? :ugeek:

Then this is the same as when dealers do many many jobs at the absolute bare minimum.

Bye bye boring grey car - had got to the point I could VT it so I did, painless process and the guy from Manheim took it away this morning. Value had collapsed since the silly time of late 2021 / early 2022 so yay for PCP.
simon_g wrote: Fri Mar 04, 2022 9:50 am Anyway, picked up our new boring car on Monday.

Anyway - had usual browse of autotrader over a coffee once the guy left, saw this not far away, went and looked and I was driving it home by 12:30. Can't get away from grey cars it seems.
