Only blocks off a small fraction of a very large intake

Clicky for example

Admittedly that's a 5 character plate so easier to remain legal, but personalised plates aren't cheap anymore, especially anything that's got fewer characters to legally fit a smaller plate.

I wasn't talking about going obviously tiny - but then, the amount of Golf R's, AMG Mercs and BMW M cars I see not running any front plates these days makes me wonder if the coppers even care anymore.

looks like it blocks most of the grill!

I’ve a nagging recollection that having no front plate is a lesser offence than misrepresenting the actual plate, which making it smaller technically is, even though it’s still fully legible whereas no plate obviously isn’t !

Also, FLORD ? I don’t geddit.

Plenty of 5 digit plates for £250 still, just depends how fussy you are about what’s on them

3/4 Plate on the front of the TVR so I could increase airflow into the engine bay (along with the mesh grill mine has now). So far I've been fine with it although a local car parks ANPR reads it incorrectly.

Which one ?

The plates on the Scimitar are totally legal, the car park in Camberley by the theatre read it fine on the way in and let me pay for it, but wouldn’t read it to open the barrier and let me out !

I was “that person” blocking the exit

Asda/Decathlon/Smyths in Farnborough. It read the D as an O in my plate and I had to manually enter the plate and adjust the time to pay. As there are no barriers I could probably just leave without paying but I'm sure that plate would get flagged for investigation and they'd hunt me down like a dog

Really tempted to fit a slightly smaller, but not stupidly small - plate to the Alfa just to take the edge off so I can relocate it into the grille.

Have you ever been pulled with yours?
I was pulled for a small front plate on the VXR8, but they backed off when I explained it wasn’t uK type-approved and the plate met all the import regs. (Which I pulled out of my glove box and handed to him). One of the two coolers was feckin furious at that mind).
Which one?

Most of those side ones appear to be blocked off.

Yateley, IIRC ? He used to live almost literally around the corner from where I am now.

Yateley as Steve says, formerly about 500m from him.

Jay Gees on Ascot high st do all the local Mclaren's and have loads of photos of exotics they've had in, so they may be a good place for "special" stuff with the odd "pushing the boundaries"!

You’ll laugh but it was Halfords in Sandhurst. I’ve taken all my cars there for the last (erk) sixteen years and they’ve never unfairly failed anything. They used to automatically quote a price for fixing stuff but were never pushy about it.

I only ever had one “discussion” with them, when a tester refused to do the Compact claiming fixed bucket seats would be an immediate fail. We discussed the situation. They did the MOT.

Thanks Rich and Steve. I tried Halfords first, as they’re closer, but no availability that suited. So it’s off to JayGee next week.. 🤞

Their insta is pretty interesting! And I can sit in Fego’s whilst I wait ! Win/win

Galaxy update.

Trusted indie looked it over and found nothing untoward. The O/S brake pads were nearing replacement time, so he did that, but otherwise nothing.

On the fan issue he spoke to Ford who explained that the original design of the fan assembly apparently wasn't very good, so it was changed. That's why it's a whole new pile of bits: fan, controller, shroud and so on. Why that's £800 is anyone's guess. Fitting is about an hour.

He suggested I carry a stock of spares and just replace them when they fail. Thinking about when they've failed it has always been in high load situations, e.g. creeping along slow traffic on a hot day. If it was just me I'd keep spares as it is a five minute job to replace the module (once things are cool enough that you can touch them), but as it is the family bus it tends to follow the children, which makes it less palatable. My wife wouldn't be happy to try to swap the module out unless it was somewhere safe, so I reluctantly think we'll have to swallow the cost.

Blackcircles - emailed this morning to ask for my review of the garage fitting my tyres today.

Dropped car off.

Picked up car after lunch and guy says your tyres arent here yet.

Phones BC and was on hold - they do ring you back in ...... 2 hours.

Got phone call.... had to reorder the tyres.

Rating of BC - poor.

IME, BC have been fine, but my nearest fitter is an ATS Euromaster who are utterly fucking useless.

Fan controller re-fitted to the 928 after it turned up first thing this morning. Superb service from JDS Porsche. Sent Monday, received by them Tuesday, same day fix (but missed courier deadline) and back by Thursday. Excellent comms throughout too. Highly recommended.

Whenever I've used Blackcircles, the tyre fitting place confirms the tyres are there before I drop the car off. You are reliant on the quality of the chosen fitter though it's a bit poor that they didn't arrive.
