600 miles into France and we're at our friends' place. It is lovely.

Sadly there is something about French roads and my cars. Galaxy developed a grumbly right OSF brake. Doesn't seem to be binding or sticking, but grumbles under braking and there's a vibration on top. Will take it to a garage, but it is a B/H on Monday, so no joy until Tuesday morning which means we may be delayed getting to our camp site in Spain.

We're in the Central Massif region and the hills one again highlight that when fully loaded (five up, roof box, boot filled to the roof with camping gear, three bikes on the back) it is underpowered.

The only thing I don’t like about the custom ones is that they isn’t have the gear pattern

Where in Spain are you going? I booked the X5 into one yesterday (we’re on the coast about 30 min from Girona) that was recommended to me and there’s a 10 day lead time even though I have the part and it’s max 2 hours to swap…

Warped disc, or pad deposit, depending which theory you subscribe to. Probably not terminal. If it's not binding then unless it's shaking horrendously I'd wait until I got home*. If not then if France has a European equivalent to Euro Car Parts ( ) then some discs & pads and a couple of basic tools to fit them shouldn't be expensive.

* about this time last year I spent a week driving a Cayenne with no power steering around the Isle of Wight. It wasn't much fun. After I got back a friend of mine who's into gliding & light aircraft said he could have flown out in person to drop off a rack if I'd asked. A bit excessive, but CAF to have a personal airlift on hand

My plan is to be at the local (here in France) Ford garage when they open at 7am on Tuesday. Even if they can just look at it and tell me it is as @Sundayjumper says.

I've brought tools to be able to take out seats in case someone vomits and enough boots to fix a bike, but having never done brakes myself, this isn't the time to learn.

Surely the right answer is to rent your Vito in a five-seater configuration. That way there's power and no need for roof box or bikes dangling on the back.

If it needs some random UK specific part I’ve just landed back in the UK and will be flying out again on Friday and you’re only 15 min from me so am happy to airlift it for you! Stanstead might start giving me odd looks though - all I took out with me this Friday was an a/c condenser!

Thanks, that's very kind of you. Hopefully the bits needed are all standard Ford components, but we'll see.

Swift - MOT. Flying colours etc. As should be the case given it's done only 2500 miles in the last 12 months. Lady who collected the car from my local garage to do the job failed to find reverse when picking the car up. When she returned it she somehow manage to abandon it sideways across my drive. And she left the engine running, which we didn't realise until the neighbours asked why it was running (and 'parked' like that).

Boxster in for mot this morning - no advisories.

Had to do a chargeback for the not repaired properly drive shaft the other month. Still ongoing.

It's been a mega hoot in the recent heat. Even sitting in traffic is not a problem.

Altho any locals may have done this drive recently - Snake Pass - OMG they really have f u c k e d that road up. About 8 sets of lights? and totally unsafe to go quickly. Saying this at the Sheffield end a guy coming the other way warned 2 bikers that the rozzers were out with speed guns further down the road. As I am possibly more vigilant than most I decided to do 45 mph on the straight where they were hiding. The two cars who over took me at 65 were in for a shock when plod jumped out waving their arms to slow down. He gave me a nod as I cruised past

330e had it's 1st service this week at 21000 miles. Great service as always from Sandal Wakefield. Borrowed an X3 20d xdrive for the day which was a nice bus.

Nothing to report other than the 330e continuing to be an awesome daily. It's averaged over 57mpg for those 21000 mile which is pretty good. It's superb at weekends doing all the running around on electric and being very cheap to run. It's also got plenty of poke in electric for that kind of driving. I really like this car!

E90 320d auto is about to hit 100k and is running well. Drove it today for the first time in a while. It's a cracking daily for the wife that cost buttons and drives really well. Engine still feels strong and the autobox shifts nicely. A very good car. Nothing breaks or falls off it just keeps doing its duties. Happy days.

What did you think of the seats in the X3? When I tried one a few weeks ago I couldn't get comfy at all and it felt very perched. It was almost as if the seat was a couple of sizes too small.

I was perfectly comfortable as I am in my 330e. You need to make sure you spec lumbar support as this makes a massive difference and double check how inflated the side bolsters are. 1st time I drove a 5 series I thought the seats were too narrow, then the salesman told me about the inflatable bolsters
