I watched a few of the Peter Windsor/Scarbs vids on the 2020 Merc/RBR/'rari/McLaren. When they showed the side profiles of the 2020 cars, the length of the middle of the carsv is ridonculous.

I don’t know if it’s an optical illusion but it looks like the drivers sit towards the front of the car rather than smack in the middle, but still, makes it relevant to road cars innit 😉
Don’t think there’s any regulations limiting car length so I wonder how extreme it will go, more bodywork = more downforce and simpler front wings means that they’re elongating the bargeboard to get it back.

You could fit a small European country in the the distance from the driver, to the rear wheels.

I know last year Ferrari were top and going to walk the championships after testing but the midfield looks to be interesting.

Racing Point might even be 3rd fastest in front of Ferrari...

Looking forward to the season assuming it can take place with Corona Virus travel restrictions.

Renault and McLaren are apparently contesting the fact that the Racing Point is basically a 2019 Merc with the FIA. I can’t see it doing any good but definitely suggests that they’re “best of the rest”.

It’s the most stupid protest I’ve ever heard of, considering all teams copy design elements off each other. Force India always did clever things with a small budget and if copying is what it takes to compete on a small budget then fair enough as it’s within the rules. Ted went through the car yesterday on the post Practice show and whilst looking like a 2019 Mercedes overall it did have many individual changes.

Oh, I haven't seen news today so was unaware of the protest. I know they all protest anything but it is slightly galling. Just work harder.

Ted and the pundits seem to think it borrowed heavily from last years' Merc but no problems with rule breaking. Hopefully the FIA will tell them to shut their moan

I love RPs response of “should we have copied a slower car?”

Also they can’t protest the whole who car from what I understand but only an element of it, which would be pointless in isolation...

It’s just bullshit bitterness which ruins it a bit. Why can’t another team copy the philosophy of a faster team? I don’t see anyone complaining about teams copying the Ferrari car...

Because running a 2019 Ferrari won’t beat everyone

Did you see the latest FIA report into the suspiciously fast Ferrari engine last year? Tldr- they cheated but they have settled with telling Ferrari to not do that again because it’s naughty.

No, it wasn’t illegal until the technical clarification was issued. At that point, they were in breach of the clarified rule and they stopped using that system.
Ferrari’s team boss Mattia Binotto consistently denied any wrongdoing and the team were not found to have broken the regulations.

They were somehow tampering the FIA fuel flow sensor iirc to collect additional fuel to get past the fuel flow limit and then deploy it on the straights for that monster straight line speed.
