Anyway, needless to say the Mrs has no idea how it happened and has no memory of anything.

Not to worry - she's done well for nearly 3 years of driving so far if that's the only damage to show for it.
Are you sure it isn’t paint transfer from another vehicle/fence/lampost?

It's definitely down to the primer - you can feel the level drop when you go from the painted area to the primer area.

I'd say she's rubbed the car past a post as the road to the nippers pres-school is quite narrow and difficult to pass cars coming the other way.

Some cunt in a van reversed into the Jag last night, right in front of my eyes. I was across the road in the queue for the chippy, and by the time I'd got my phone camera out and was over the road they were off. I got a pic of them driving away though.

Damage appears to be limited to a crushed front number plate surround, so probably £20. But it's not the point.

Local plod report-it website clearly states minor damage RTAs will not be investigated, just logged. So basically fuck you.

Does that include leaving the scene of an accident which is a criminal offence and not a civil matter?

Unclear, but I imagine it'll get filed under "later".

It's hardly surprising that everyday folk have or are losing faith in the police, unless it's a speeding offence or a thought crime they aren't interested.

You only need to report it if someone is injured or you suspect a crime has been committed.

My learner daughter was hit in the rear whist static at a junction last week. The lady has verbally accepted liability but won't provide insurance details but offered to fund the repairs "to an extent" . If she doesn't pay up there's nothing I can do about it other than report it to my daughters insurer to pursue which we all know would be costly given her age !

There's usually a clause in your insurance which says you must report any incident within 24 hours regardless of whose at fault otherwise they can cancel your policy so I'm not sure how wise it would be to call them up a week later!

...won't provide insurance details...
Isn't that in itself a crime, refusing to give you their insurance details ? Have you checked if the car is actually insured ? https://ownvehicle.askmid.com/

It is insured and my daughter's insurance company can ask for the info but the insured isn't obliged to give it to me.

Minor update time.

Galaxy needs an aircon regas, so will get that booked in. Blows cold(ish), but isn'tb properly cold. As we're driving to Spain this summer I'd like it colder

One of the rear parking sensors on the Zoe has fallen into the bumper. Wonder if it has been bumped or it was caused by the plastic going soft in the heat? There are no marks, but surely they don't just pop out? It also suffers from lifting window trim on three of the doors. Not sure there's anything to do but replace them. And finally I'll need to figure out why the heated rear screen isn't working. And possibly also the heated seats.

And both cars are filthy. Properly so. Would get them washed, but there are several houses a few doors up being completely gutted and rebuilt, so the amount of building dust is atrocious.

Parking sensors do normally just clip in from behind. I wouldn’t be surprised if a small nudge at the right angle could dislodge one.

That certainly sounds plausible. Need to remove the underbody panel to get access.

Tried an X3 for my wife today. She noticed an X5 so we had a look at that and it’s so much nicer, we didn’t even bother driving the X3. I had a drive of the X5 (G05 model, 40i MSport) and it was great but I’m not willing to commit to a finance deal on a near £50k car. So one for the future.

Has got me looking at Macans now.

The Skoda emblem on the back of the Yeti fell off the other day. Doesn't seem like a rare occurrence, judging by comments on the internet. Ordered a new one online which arrived yesterday. New one fitted in 10 minutes. Just needed a hair drier to remove the old adhesive that was keeping the inner plastic 'block' of the only one attached to the boot still, then some alcohol spray to clean it all up before applying the new one. Job jobbed.

I thought you cannot get a regas any more as they need to investigate where the gas went the first time? It is sealed so cannot evaporate so likely to seals or corroded pipes or similar.

I have avoided driving the newest X5 and the Macan, mainly because I have worse man months than you and would sign up to such a deal. How did you find it the drive compared to your Last SUV I drove was a Cayenne and I found that it defied physics in corners, the high driving position was better on B roads and motorways, but under braking you felt like the weight of the thing tripled.

Like tyres can lose pressure over time without a leak, aircon can lose gas without there being anything wrong.

Of course to lose any there technically has to be a leak of some sort, but if it’s so minuscule it’s taken 10 years for the system to become less effective then there’s a pretty good chance the vacuum test they do before refilling won’t find any fault.

The system on the merc isn’t getting as ice cold as it should, but I also doubt it’s ever been checked and is now 17 years old. Same with my compact, it’s definitely working but not really cold, but it’s 25 years old and know it sat not used for a couple of years before I bought it which doesn’t help.

I don’t drive many SUVs; I would probably quite enjoy owning one and using it every day but I stick to estates on principle 😄 So my comparison is to my Allroad really. It really was absolutely great to drive, yes it’s heavy and feels it but on the standard air suspension, the ride was good but it still corners. I wouldn’t want to find out what happens when you do turn in too fast though.
Surprisingly quick in 40i petrol form; I wasn’t expecting much due to the weight but it turns out it does 0-60 in 5.8s so it’s swifter than you’d expect.
I like the visibility but dislike climbing up to get in. I’d be very happy to have access to one though. Would prefer a thinner steering wheel because the rim obscures the instruments.
