Pair of Kenwoods. No grilles but I imagine they’ll be behind the factory ones anyway. All yours if you want them.

The bottle of polish in particular is at least ten years old.

You need to throw those dusters away as they have been on the floor now! :o

I've got one of those super cheap polishers.

They do the job but your wrists are going to hate you.

I was going to do a joke about having strong wrists but, err.... I've got my hands full right now.

Anyway…….

You’re right, it does seem to do the job. I’m going to have to do the whole bloody van now.

The missing glass has been tinted, but to be on the safe side I’m leaving it overnight to dry before I re-fit it.

Mini now has an MOT pass. And new valve stem seals, de-coked (silly not to while the head was off, though not so bad it was otherwise necessary), new timing chain and tensioner and new cat.

I'm going to drive it a bit myself because it's nice, it would benefit from being driven and I can check out the other little bits which might need fixing such as the loose handbrake grip. Since I realised the chrome trim round the big centre speedo was as stuck on as the door mirror covers (long gone), I ripped that off too. There's still chrome underneath FFS! I am now wondering if any of the other interior chrome might be stuck on aftermarket bits rather than factory, in which case it's also coming off.

Cheers Steve - I've posted a few in an Imgur gallery but this wide angle shows everything:
Image
There's a chrome rim round both the door speakers, all 4 air vents, the cupholders, the gearlever and rev counter. The handbrake grip chrome looks crap so I suspect that's aftermarket. Think the rest may be OE since they're consistent with the chrome on the big centre speedo which had been covered up with a chrome frisbee for no apparent reason. In the bin so no before photo.

Forgot to post the photo I took of the Brompton fitting perfectly in the boot - very British

That looks the same as ours.

I think it's OEM actually ! The ring closest to the button keeps falling off, and our previous one was the same. It's just a poor design.

Oh FFS, looks like I'd better order new not used so it's OK for a little while at least.

Yeah, get a new one. They can’t be too expensive.

Also, FWIW, I’ve been pleased with this phone holder. It attaches to the back of the rev counter so no risk of it dropping off when it gets hot like the suction mounts tend to.

Cheers for that - I was thinking there must be a clever way of mounting a phone so it doesn't obscure the relatively small windscreen. Where's it from?

Ebay of course !

The seller I got it from seems to have disappeared but this appears to be the same thing:

Ordered. Also ordered a speaker grille, a handbrake grip, one Isofix point cover and a Y-cable. Can't remember exactly which speaker is slightly blown so I'll have a listen when I next drive it.

Seems mad not to bring the little things up to scratch now. Should probably take it for a razz round Wales shortly; it's the most fun car to drive (on tarmac) in our household.

A free upgrade for the hifi to change the front and rear bass channels in the connector iirc.

It makes a fair bit of difference to the bass offered by the stereo.

I'll try find the link

I think it was actually you mentioning it that spurred me to buy one in the first place. A few years ago. This is the first time I’ve gotten around to using it. I concur that it’s passingly adequate and makes your arms hurt.

So i thought I’d look for an upgrade. I have some DeWalt stuff already so that was my first port of call but they’re near enough £200 !! It’s basically an angle grinder with a variable speed control, and 3x the price.
