Dab of oppo and you'd have been away.

Had to do an unplanned excursion at 0230 this morning and, even though it was a bit sleety, car handled it with ease.. it was 3oC so need a sub-zero drive really before necessitating the winter tyres purchase; purchase case looking less promising tbh as SE England doesn’t see to get enough EXTREME cold weather..

That's an interesting tip though Gummi Pflege isn't expensive and lasts for years. Though I'm not sure where mine is so just ordered a new Liqui Moly one from eBay for under £6 delivered: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127442872058

If you can stick it in with some other bits to get above the 'free delivery' limit (£35 these days) it's under four quid on Amazon.

Just as a one off buy though, eBay is cheaper given Amazon won't do anything other than Prime or £5 next day delivery for something so small...

A bit of cold and it seems like every twat has forgotten how to drive. My 45 min commute took 1h20mins yesterday due to three separate accidents. Today I followed a big suv who did 35mph on all of the nsl sections, with occasional drops to 25.

I dread to think how bad it would be if it had actually been slippery, or god forbid, proper snow!

Same here. Had some propper snow but thanks to the gritted roads they’re clear. Not that some people think that

Today I have had e-mails from eBay saying my package is now with DPD. I had to go back to Amazon and check I didn't accidentally order another when Beany linked to it

Dusting of snow round our way, and -5 outside. So cold that whatever melted on the rear window ran over the bootlid and re froze.

Then I saw someone park a Lotus Emira in the car park at work and cursed myself for being so soft.

Staffordshire seems to have more snow and -8 temperatures. I'm grateful I put CrossClimate 3 Sport tyres on my Audi.

I was feeling similarly smug this morning as I had to pop out in Mrs mik’s car with the Vredstein Wintrac Pro+ fitted.

I do however need to use the Evora later today so - c’mon mr sun!

I swapped tyres on the Merc yesterday which was perfectly timed as we had about 3in last night, even the main roads were fairly well covered.

Mito on its all seasons was quite good fun, still nervous of everyone else on the road though.

Seems very hit and miss who got what, work 30 miles from ours has only had about 10mm, another 20 miles further towards the coast it’s supposed to be quite a lot worse.

Just nipped to the shops on icy roads near my house.

Given that it's been over 12 months since I last drove in Icy conditions, I've no idea if the tyres on my current car are any better or worse in icy conditions than the tyres that were on my car the last time I drove in icy conditions - which was in a different car, with different sized wheels and tyres

I'm more than happy to admit that I'm sufficiently NCG to not notice one iota of difference between tyres. Sure I could probably tell a set of Firestones from a set of cheap Chinese Remoulds (or winters to summers etc) but a good set of Michelins or a good set of Bridgestone's are going to be near enough identical in performance that my NCG driver's ass couldn't tell the difference.

And let's be honest, the demographic of our users, and the the cars you all drive, you're not going to be buying any cheap tyres now are you ??

Nexen Winguard sport winter vs a normal ‘sporty’ but not particularly high performance Goodyear eagle F1.

One will be ok in snow, the other virtually useless!

Summers: Hahaha good luck
All season: Fighting chance but don't assume you'll be pulling up a 1 in 10 hill on hardpacked snow from a standstill (direct experience....I started parking downhill )
Winters: What snow and ice?

The main difference I notice is that when it's just a bit cold and wet, all seasons don't light up in 1st/2nd like pure summers tend to do, or at least require a lot more provocation. The Nokians on the Puma I had years ago though, those were borderline magical in terms of how much grip they could seemingly generate out of nowhere.

You had such an opportunity to perfect your J-turns as well there Beany - should have continued parking facing uphill

My experience of full winters vs all seasons has been that the all seasons give you 90% of the benefits of winters while the summers are just unusable. Because it'll probably be 15C next week, all seasons seem like a more sensible compromise than full winters in the UK.
