Today I’m mostly wanting a GR86. With the thought that it’s a cheaper, nat. aspirated, manual gearbox, more practical, although slower alternative to an Alpine. Which I’ve also been desiring recently.

Problem with the Alpine is that it falls in that strange no-mans land.

Doesn't have the name, looks or the cachet (unless you're nerdy enough to remember the original) - it's saving grace is how it drives, but even then would you chose it over the Emira/Evora or Cayman? Both of which are also available in manual and with V6 options too.

Am I the only one who cant look at a Cayman without subconsciously sizing up what 911 I could buy for the the same money?

I would. And I'd argue it definitely has the looks. And it weighs in at c1100kg.

That’s great, I’ve looked at a few adverts for them and they have been rot boxes. I’m in Spain at the mo, might give him a message on Sunday.

How does that work in practice? Do you and the person with the build slot have to come to an agreement between yourselves as I'm guessing dealers will only deal with the person who put the deposit on the slot and that remains in their name? Does that mean they need to follow that through to receiving the car then transferring ownership to the interested party?
Cheers,

Mike.

I guess so. Unless the dealer is happy to take part in the deal and change the name on the order.
