Yep, been back over a year now. The girls stayed in Aus with Bec - it wouldn't have been fair to bring them as I had no idea where I was going to be living and the locals may have taken the mick out of their accents.
I miss them terribly but still get regular updates, it's all good

I was lubed and rogered by the Tokyo Lego airport shop... Significantly cheaper than back home, I came back with the Schmuacher F1 car, Rexy the GT3 and the Technic Ford GT40. (And a free gift-with-purchase picture frame thing.)

The Schumacher F1 car is a nice build, quickest I’ve ever built one. Disappointing that they are still making the wheels same size front and back.

Middle one has that one too. He enjoyed building it, and it is one of a few sets that survive intact beyond the first two weeks.

I love that set - Technic is so full of vehicles these days that it needs stuff like that to show how versatile it is for building.

That being said I’ve not got round to buying it and I do have quite a few Technic vehicles waiting to be built…

You're right though, I thought it was very creative design, it's a shame they don't do more non-vehicle Technic. You'd think the options are practically endless, but I guess vehicles are where the money is.

The G-wagon it is one of, if not the worst, designed sets I've built/helped build. There are so many pieces that are poorly supported with only one point of connection that it took a lot longer to build than the set warrants.

The instructions aren't good either, with many missed opportunities to show exact fitment of some of the fiddly bits.

I've got that set but I don't recall it being any more annoying than usual

I’ve got that set and love the G-wagen. It’s one of the few I have on permanent display now. Speed Champions generally can have plenty of parts connected just by one stud or clip; they’re very much aimed at looking right rather than being hardy to play with.

DJ, the Lego Builder app allows you to zoom and move around the instructions if necessary to see exactly where a part goes or how it fits. Might be useful. Like Barry I didn’t have any issues but we’re from the era where there was no box in the corner telling you which pieces to fit in a step and you had like 15-20 parts to add in a step in different places - it was like a spot the difference test. I’m guilty of moaning that instructions have got too simple but as builds have become more complicated and the available parts and colours has expanded enormously I don’t think Lego could do it any better. For a comparison download some random instructions from Rebrickable - made by a Lego builder not the company - and see how bad they can be

Actually here’s a good example. First three steps - check our step 2 where the two D-snot pieces in the middle aren’t actually supported by or connected to anything And in step 3 you add a lot of small parts stacked together at the back of the image.

Fair enough, the kids have only recently started buying those types of sets, so maybe I'm a bit rusty. We got there in the end, and he's happy he's got some AMGs.

Bought the lucky cat to go with the collection, hopefully it will get as lucky as the other two over time
