Seeing as I’m waiting for a new fuel hose and the van is definitely not going anywhere in the meantime, I’m continuing to tinker with the stereo, and have rewired the amplifier I’d already put in. I’m trying to do it all just using stuff I already have.
Customised harness to feed front channel speaker level signal to the amp, and amplified output back into the factory speaker wiring (rear channels still driven by head unit) (factory head unit does not have line-level output):

This is the amp I’m using for now. It fits very neatly in a space under the front edge of the passenger seat:

The space between the front seats looks like a perfect spot for a small sub. Here it is just plonked on the floor. The amp has four channels so two can run the front speakers and two can be bridged into the sub.

Holy crap, the Jag is finished! Fresh MOT, taxed and re-insured, just waiting for the call to say come and get it.
Now have to decide whether to keep the Rover around as a spare "just in case". Given it's worth fvck all it might be an idea, and is probably a better school run/winter car than the Jag anyway. It needs an MOT this month so will put it through that and consider what to do with it.

It seems that anything tidy with a 12 month MOT is £800+ at the moment. You must be winning with that Rover purchase ?

Paid £600. Spent maybe £200 on it in 4k miles. Probably won't be too far out all done.

Changed the wipers on the mini so thought Id do the boxster.
Easy right? No as the twin pack sent is for LHD cars - on further inspection I found this on another site
PLEASE NOTE - The adaptor on the driver side blade on the BOSCH 582S needs to be removed, turned around 180° and then fitted back into place - this is because the BOSCH 582S is set up for left hand drive vehicles, by turning the adaptor around it coverts the blade to fit right hand drive vehicles. The passenger blade does not require this process.
I have no idea how to do this? Did my own research too

Maybe slight progress on the van ? I thought I’d have a go with the old fuel hose + the new o-rings + the original bodge reapplied and <touch wood> it’s holding right now. I’ll obviously fit the new hose when it arrives but for now this gives me a chance to look for other problems without a steady flow of diesel going all over the place.

Managed to do 60 miles in almost 3 hours with 40 litres of water.
I think the coolant pipe that runs between the V of the engine is leaking because its leaking out both the front of the engine and what seems like the back. When it's parked up it sounds like a kettle right in the centre of the engine.

Alternator is gone. They blamed the hunting idle on the fuelling issue we're stll chasing, but turning the lights on and watchng them pulse like a fucking cop car ought to have been a bit of a clue. Anyway, I tested the voltage at the battery with it running and it was all over the place. Pulled the 5 amp fuse to the alternator rectifier and it smoothed out, so it's probably the rectifier bit internal to the alternator.
I took it back earlier with some brief and to the point words of advice.
I suspect the "by friday or it will go somewhere else to be finished" ultimatum I gave them earlier in the week has caused them to get it back to me without really thinking things through. An alternator is a couple of hundred quid and pretty straightforward to do.
Anyone want to guess what the final bill was after 3 months? They did a lot of welding to both sills and the internal engine bay near where the shocks mount, had to have all the brake pipes out to get to it cleanly, plus a 3rd party come in to fabricate up some metalwork. Really can't fault this side of it at all, it should go on for a long time now in that regard.

Wonder if they missed a patch of welding and corrected it quickly without disconnecting the battery and it's taken the rectifier out?
