Going to get some nice snaps of the 650 and whip it up for sale. I don't want it to go, but I'm just not using it enough to justify keeping.

New o rings have arrived. Compare old (left) to new (right) and you can see how much the originals had shrunk. I’m having a coffee and then putting it back together.

Is that a plastic cap or the hose crimp it's coming out of? One bonus is that at least it's easy to spot where it's leaking from!

I think it's a hairline crack in the T connector. A leak from the crimp would end up firing more directly towards the camera. Anyway it's now off the van and deposited back in the post to the supplier for a refund / replacement.

After doing some more searching I've found the Bosch part number for the hose and it's not too badly priced, but postage is steep. I've ordered one anyway.

Having taken the winter wheels off my Audi a week ago, last night I replaced the jacking point I broke. When I put the winters on, I broke a jacking point because I didn't have the correctly-shaped insert. This time I had the right insert but due to the height I had to raise the trolley jack (bloody air suspension, compensating for you jacking the car up...) it shifted slightly. The plastic jacking point covers on Audi A6s are ridiculous because they are big hollow plastic things which are held in place by one plastic arrowhead clip. If they get any sort of uneven loading the clip breaks. Cost me £15 each time I changed the wheels, plus the cost of the insert.

Next time I think I'll just put a circular socket on the trolley jack instead of the insert. Being smooth and round it should accommodate any slight sideways movement without putting uneven pressure on the insert. I'll also investigate whether there's a jacking mode for the air suspension.

Does it not have a jacking mode to temporarily disable the air suspension ? The Touareg & Cayenne do.

I'm going to have to check - it's not in the usual settings for raising and lowering, so I'll have to delve into the manual.

Funnily enough I've just had 2 new jacking points as well for the 330. One had shattered the side off (they're rectangular), and the other was flapping about a bit. Also £15 each.

I did notice whilst under there replacing a few trim screws that the front central jacking point has taken a whack as well at some point - it's like a 4" long box section with a hole in the middle and has crushed slightly at one end. I tried jacking up on it with a block and it seems fine. It's annoying knowing that's it's dented and I'm not sure it's replaceable.

When I Jack up the ML, I either have the boot or bonnet open as the air suspension won’t move for safety reasons with it like that.

I was hoping to do the old Citroen trick - put it in its highest setting, put a prop under the jacking point, then lower it fully. The CX, GS et al didn’t need a normal jack. Cool.

Low idle emissions is what's stopping the MOT now. Once I'd done the warranty dance with the battery late Friday night and delivered a fresh one to them Saturday morning, I was hoping they'd plug it into their diagnostics see that it's bitching about one of the 4 O2 sensors like whast I did, and replace it, and we'd all go home for tea and buns.

But they suspect an inlet manifold leak, so are going to do a smoke test. And also apparently it needs a wheel bearing now. This was Monday. It's now wednesday.

I will be collecting it at 5pm Friday in whatever state it's in, and I'll have to find someoene else to finish it, if they cannot by then. 12 weeks is just insane.

Rover needs an MOT this month too, so pressure is really on.
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.

I still don't really get why you wanted to buy an old shitty jag - surely you only have one if you enjoy working on cars yourself?

There is something very nice about wafting around in an XJ (when they're available to waft). I didn't have the space to work on mine when I had it but was happy for the garage to fettle mine. Until the gearbox shit its biscuits 😂
