We spent the day walking in the shadows like a couple of vampires.

My t-shirt had salt marks when I got home… :|

I'd be all judgey and smug but you do have my sympathy. Our Norfolk townhouse handled heat as badly as our Melbourne place handles cold (today it's 12C and feels bloody freezing).

The really worrying thing is that 40C seems to be the tipping point where forests get really enthusiastic about catching fire.

Just had five mins of lightning, thunder, and rain that was a hecking torrential downpour with enough energy to set off umpteen alarms and was loud :o

All threats of bad weather proved empty down here.

The humidity earlier made my run rather unpleasant, but apart from a very light shower, we've had nothing.

Our infection control team shut down operating theatres yesterday except for emergencies as apparently the AC can't deal with the humidity and it posed a unacceptable post op infection risk.

I mean...

Two week forecast suggests we're heading back up towards the high twenties.

Coming home lastnight about 9:30 it was raining so heavy I had to slow from 70 to 30, wipers on max speed and still could barely see a thing. Then came out of it like someone just switched the rain off

So far the threatened rain hasn't arrived down here. It is raining, but not the torrential downpour they said.

However, it was enough that one of the main branches on our plum tree snapped in the night, and it looks like the whole tree has shifted.

After a week in Ireland it was a bit of a shock to arrive home at 9.15pm last night and find it was still 24C outside. I thought the heatwave had broken a bit in England. The house was a bit warm after not having windows open etc for a week.

Didn’t hear any thunderstorms, but has rained a fair bit this morning. Yep, 25° at 10pm with humidity rising, felt pretty sticky last night.

Tbh yesterday was the only day this week which has felt properly hot.

Full moon tonight with a total eclipse, though we'll be lucky to see any of that; https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8739rrez23o

Time to dust off the telescope. Although it’s pretty cloudy…

The BBC pictures aren't very impressive. Maybe it's just how the camera makes it look but it feels like it was more red yesterday

It's far too cloudy here also, and sunset was only twenty minutes ago so it's still very light. 19:30 moon rise doesn't help its visibility either.

I can see it through the clouds but it’s just like a waxing crescent moon for me and the unilluminated bit is not red

I can see it quite clearly now, it looks much as you describe, perhaps like it has some cloud cover to the right. It's high enough to lose the colour it has when it raises so I missed that, never mind the extra from the eclipse. Oh well...again
