I like the look of it, personally. There's an M4 Comp in white which I occasionally see around here, and it looks good.

As per our Harry's comments. It's a mess. Every little tweak and detail they've added has made it worse.

I dislike the looks less after watching Harry's vid, the plate definitely helps disguise the ridiculous grille. I think an X-drive Touring version of that would make a pretty cool daily.

Rich and Harry are correct. It's an abomination. The idiots who designed and signed that off need throwing in the river with some concrete flippers.

I still don’t like the grille but I like the rest of it. The F80 looked chav, so I don’t know why there’s been criticism of the detailing on the new one. It’s far nicer.

i suggest you take another look at the rear arch and the bizarre front wing vents! It's a shocker!

They’re hardly hidden, Rich - and both already featured on the F80.

When I collected my car last month, there were 2 440 coupes, one in grey and the other in the green as featured in the video. In the flesh, it looks better, but not my cup of tea.

Exactly - I think you need a trip to spec savers!

I didn’t watch the whole vid without forwarding ‘cos I really wasn’t that interested after noting the £86k price tag.

Front grille doesn’t really offend me much any more (although car stylists are aware that registration plates exist yeah?) but other bits look really fussy. Those lower seat bolsters look like they will do you an injury.

Can’t argue with the power and associated performance stats, but I didn’t leave that vid thinking “wow, want”.

yeah, I like the seats! The rest of the interior is also a mess though!

Those seats are nasty, you will have to get out the car like a woman in a short skirt every time.

1.8 tons is also ridiculous, so with all the clever tech they have at their disposal they make it as heavy as a 20 year old M5.

It looks like a rip speed body kit, cheap and nasty.

It would amaze me if the new C63 is any better and will also be full of Las Vegas chintzy tat as an afterthought.

Dave!

Perhaps you do for feeling the need to point them out, when they were on the last generation. Even the E90 M3 had gill vents and wider rear arches on the quarter panel but not the door

the gill vents on the e90 and F80 are nice, they're in keeping with the body lines. The G80 just has a massive black blot at a weird angle - it looks shit!

I do agree the rear arches on the older ones aren't perfect, but they are definitely less clumsy looking than the G80, and the fact that the rest of the car is SO messy, it's just the final straw!

Yeah, you definitely need to go to Specsavers. The F80 looks awful, the G80 looks way better other than the front grille and that's at least hidden behind the numberplate.

Isn't Harry's point that you need to think of it as an M5, and the M2 as the old M3?

All of this confirms that @Rich B needs an Elise next. 8-)

Essentially, yes. An 'agile' m5 I think he put it.

I would agree that the newer models looks better overall... save for the grille but that itself is enough to ruin the whole thing so I'd chalk it down as a no score draw and go and buy a two year old DB11, assuming I didn't need sizeable back seats, as you'd be barking mad to spend 80k+ on a 3/4 series when there are so many way way more tempting alternatives.
