100% unless you’re a clumsy oaf.

Aye, I used my 5s for 2 years after the contract was up. I'm currently using my missus's old 6S, it's getting a bit flakey so I'm probably going to jump to an 8.

I kind of fancy going back to android but I need to look up if it's going to be a hassle to set up now that all of my stuff is in the Apple cloud.

I despair at the idea that over 300 ppi is too low. Rapidly diminishing returns way before that.

iOS12 is so snappy on my iPhone SE I think I'll be sticking with it for a while. This article made me appreciate a bit more what a lovely bit of design it is. Finding it hard to find the enthusiasm for spunking £800 on a XR, especially as the orange is a washed-out "coral". Meh.

To be fair, they do call it 'coral' not orange. I'd not have it, but the photos of it look nicer than I expected.

Quite like the white XR - a traditional Apple colour for the device but with a completely black front (I hate the white around the screen on the silver, gold and rose gold versions of the 5, 6, 7 and 8). It also has silver sides making it look a bit like an original iPhone.

People forget how lovely the original iPhones were. Was it the 3GS that had a curved back? Was like holding a lovely smooth pebble

Old iPhones and iPods were reassuringly weighty as well. Bring back heavy tech.

It was the 3G/3GS - that felt quite cheap because it was plastic, IMO. The original iPhone was lovely and I've always wondered why they haven't done a silver back/black front version of any of the more recent ones to hark back to it.

iPhone 8 and above have glass backs for wireless charging

Glass is heavy

These new phones feel very reassuringly heavy

Totally agree

They could have done an ultra expensive iPhone X Anniversary Edition - maybe auctioned it off, like they did that Red Mac Pro

XR Looks the way to go and will be a worthwhile upgrade for the 6 that has done me well for the last 4 years!

I was really hoping for a tenth anniversary iPhone which had echoes of the original.

Does the XR have a glass back, then? If they all do now, it's never going to happen.

All glass, all the time now

Wireless charging needs a non-metal back. So it's either cheap-feeling plastic, or premium-feeling glass.

Yes, 3G felt lovely in the hand and was a clever way of disguising the bulk when people were expecting phones to get smaller with every generation. Shame it was plastic and had a tendency to crack above the dock connector after a while.

4 was a lovely piece of design, felt absurdly strong and very much a premium product with its stainless band and glass back. There was something about it none of them since in their quest for weight reduction have managed to match.

My 6s still feels great to use, but I don't like it as much as the 4 as an object. I'm still on iOS 10 as a lot of the apps I use keep telling me they won't work with 11 and I can't be bothered to look for different ones to do the same things and I'm increadibly cautious about sticking new software on older tech after the last couple of phones were rendered horrible to use after doing so.

The 4 was a real jump up in terms of objects, that is definitely true.

Yep, 4 was what tempted me into iPhone ownership. The ones before didn’t have their own design identity, they were more like evolved iPods imo.

The original iPhone had its own identity - I just don’t think it was that successful really so most people won’t have had one. Despite Carphone Warehouse selling them off for £179.

Wasn't it more that it was the original Really Expensive Phone? I held back for years because 'a phone' shouldn't cost so much.

Now I buy a $1k handset like it's normal.

It was initially £279 but we were so used to free handsets on £20/month contracts.

And the App Store didn’t exist so it didn’t do more than any other phone, just through a touch screen.

Good God, is that really all they were?! I remember in 2008 baulking at the cost!
