See, I don't see the point on a road bike. It's a piece of piss to maintain a good speed on the road. 16mph through the trees is a different story though.

16mph isn't really a good speed on a road bike though is it, that's beginners pace really.

Talking about maintaining a good speed on the road and then referencing it to 16mph through the trees.

Of course it's a piece of piss to maintain 16mph on a road bike, try maintaining a decent speed though. Power is power, it may take 250w to bash through the trees, that 250w on the road would probably translate to 22/23mph. The expended effort is the same, speed and distance vastly different.

16mph is pretty good to go up hills whilst expending minimum effort. On the way down or on the flat you can do a lot more, you can even do more than 15.5 uphill - but it's up to you and your legs.

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about how these work. If you are not sure, ask me.

What a lot of people miss when talking about the 15.5mph cut off assist, is that after that, it turns into a normal bike, so you can pedal faster if you want to. However, due to the increased weight & the fact that on most (if not all to a greater & lesser extent), you are still turning some part of the motor/gearbox so there is added resistance. This can make it much harder to attain higher speeds.

Thus me not seeing the point on a road bike (and when I say road bike, I mean 1990's racer style bike) as you're much more likely to be riding over 15.5mph on the flat than you are on a mountain bike.

You turn it off and the resistance disappears. It's still a bastard heavy bike mind you.

Turns out my parents bought two Brompton-style bikes, and they are very good fun! There's a gentle hill near them and cycling up or down it requires the same effort to maintain speed. The fact they are folding and have a low slung frame means anyone from my 9yo daughter to 72yo dad can use them; I can see the appeal.

Had a blast on my mates Specialized lenovo yesterday & wierdly, I didn't like it. It felt lumpy & when you tried to give it some welly, it felt like it was pushing back trying to stop you. Go figure.

I bought this at the weekend. I fucking love it. Absolute hooligan of a bike and makes me grin riding it even on the driveway, can't wait to take out into the woods a bit soon.
