See Lord Ashcroft and his post about the things modern people would have been offended by during World War II. Imagine being offended by something that didn’t, and couldn’t ever happen

In all my posts on this forum and it's predecessor what on earth would make you ask that, other than your own innate need for argument and conflict?

I am talking about people who go looking for offence where none was taken nor intended and who take false umbrage.
I find the phrase offensive because it’s dismissive of the opinions of others.

Isn't the whole "offense" thing WRT the message itself a bit of a red herring? Nobody was "offended" when Trump tweeted about Liberate Virginia and 2nd amendment rights, but it did encourage a lot of twats to grab their AR-15s and block ambulances getting to hospitals.

Surely the point is - Did Elon Musk post some random cryptic shit about "open your eyes people", or did he post something deliberately inflammatory with implied tacit support for extremist groups? Obviously the latter, not only making him a cunt, but also Ivanka Trump for giving it the presidential seal of approval.

You're better than that REV. You know they're two different things. Hmm, maybe you're offended on behalf of people who are offended on behalf of other people. I'm not sure what this all means, where all this terminology will lead us. To someone disappearing up their own arsehole, probably*.

Nope. It’s a phrase only used by those that have said (or supported) something offensive against a specific group of people who don’t like being called out by someone not in the target group. If someone in the target group complains then either they’re only joking or the victim is playing the x card.

Which phrase?

You do realise that was not what I was doing, and if you look through the many years of my input, I would be surprised if I have ever used it in the context or manner which you are offended by?

I was checking as it is hardly a well known fucking phrase. You are literally looking to take offense at my post being confused about when and where to take offence which was a joke (albeit not too funny) in the first place.

I agree in the context you use, it is used as an excuse for dick behaviour, that is not the context I used it in though so can we just agree my joke was shite but in fact I am not a right wing apologist, nor in fact right wing?

"Offended on behalf of others”. Do you mean being “an empathetic human being and aware of the feelings of other people”? Do you consider that to be a bad thing?"

Simply, no; no he doesn't mean "an empathetic..." when he says "Offended on behalf...", and no, being empathetic isn't a bad thing. For sure "offended..." can be and is used in the way you describe in your "Nope." reply but that isn't the only way it's used or it's only meaning. I'll wait while you Google it ;)

I didn’t take offence to your post. At no point have I accused you of anything. What I said was that I find that phrase offensive and I explained why. I even went out of my way to discuss it in general terms and not say “you”. Stop taking shite on the Internet personally.

My point is very simple: if you say someone is getting offended on someone else’s behalf, there must be a “someone else” who would or could be offended by what was said, therefore whatever was said is offensive, and you’re trying to deflect from what you said. If what you said wasn’t offensive, it wouldn’t be possible to offended on someone else’s behalf because there’d be no one to be offended.

In the example you give, assuming the offended person is an empathetic human being aware of the feelings of the other people and basically their spokesperson that they've appointed, I agree. Put a narcissist in their place and things are different. They'd say they're offended on someone else's behalf whether or not there was any offence or the someone else was offended because it wouldn't be about righting wrongs, it would be all about them and what they can gain from it. The boy who cried wolf. The chap who caused Alastair Stewart to resign in January. Katie Hopkins. People who say "I'm not offended personally, but..." (is that cultural appropriation?). I'm sure you can think of other - and probably better - examples than I can remember.
