ExWife2 had loads of trouble getting the planning for the studio changed to being able to run the restaurant in it. The planning solicitor was genuinely amazed at the objections he had raised and some of the demands placed on the property.

I can't imagine why he seemingly took such a dislike to her.

It's looking increasingly likely that Reform registered candidates that didn't exist. Does anyone more learned than me know whether the Tories could appeal the result on that basis?

Is it? What new evidence has there been since the utterly lacking in background research initial accusations? They're a bunch of cnuts but if they can get 4m votes, they can get 650 people to stand for them.

Exactly. So it's looking increasingly less likely that Reform candidates didn't exist.

Ah right, I hadn’t seen that. So it’s a fund raising thing?

Still seems pretty sketchy tbh. Got to make sure everyone gets a handout though I suppose

Reform has now conceded that a last-minute rush to find candidates led the party’s staff to recruit their friends and family.

“We were desperate”, a party spokesperson told the BBC.

“Basically it’s friends, relations, office workers. One of the candidates got their partner to stand.”
A very serious political party. You'd think given how popular they reputedly are, they'd have a list of decent quality potential candidates as long as their arm. After all, we have elections every four or five years, you'd think they'd be aware of that.

I imagine the bigger problem was after checking their posting history on the internet, and removing the "the nazis were right/the jews are trying to run the world/women are worthless and don't deserve healthcare" types, they were left with fucking no-one.

edit:
Viral star Mark Matlock is embracing his new-found fame, even if it was the result of online conspiracy theories.

“I love it, a free advertisement. It’s great”, he told GB News.

“I’ve been made like a star on Twitter. I could never have imagined that this would be the case. It’s fantastic”, he said.

“Thank you to all the extremists who’ve done this for me.”
Oh mate:

If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

Yes, the reform party supporters are bound to be fully behind a brown chap running the party. They've stopped pretending about the brown person who was running the party, shock horror.

The new politics will probably come once the literal lies about what was being spent previously are investigated. Remember when the Rwanda scheme was supposed to have cost some £350m or something over the cost of it's life?
The UK government had paid £240m to Rwanda by the end of 2023.

However, the total payment will be at least £370m over five years, according to the National Audit Office.

If more than 300 people are sent to Rwanda, the UK would pay a one-off sum of £120m to help boost the country's economy, with further payments of £20,000 per individual relocated.

On top of that, up to £150,000 will be paid for each person sent there, the NAO report, external said.

These figures would not include the cost of payments to anyone who chooses to go to Rwanda voluntarily.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-61782866

Yeah, try doubling that, and that's just one example of where the outgoing govt literally just lied about how much things had cost and what had been spent.
The Conservatives' Rwanda scheme cost taxpayers £700m, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has said.

The previous government had planned to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda to deter people from crossing the Channel in small boats.

However, the scheme was stalled by legal challenges and Ms Cooper said only four people had been removed to the country voluntarily.

Shadow home secretary James Cleverly accused his counterpart of using "made up numbers".

Labour has said it is scrapping the scheme, describing it as an "expensive gimmick".

There's the old thing of the tradition of chancellers leaving notes to their successors saying "theres no money left, good luck have fun" which was an internal thing done between chancellers of outgoing/incoming parliaments, that the Tories weaponised to suggest the last labour govt were financially incompetent.

In this instance, it appears it may be the actual, literal truth.

There isn’t going to be a new politics. Just more of the same from another round of uninspired middle managers.
