Last I hear there were not enough maths teachers so who is going to take all these new classes? (sorry if someone said on previous pages.

I was good(ish) at basic arithmetic and did Stats at Uni for two years and can add up in my head etc but I struggle with mark up v margin and used to have it written in jobs where I sorted pricing for clients.

I agree with most above, especially the need for practical application maths, explaining about bills, having separate accounts etc, it should be taught at home I guess but many parents live pay check to pay check so clearly haven't a clue. A real eye opener when I worked in the bank, seeing how many people had huge debt and essentially their wage paid interest on fancy cars, big houses etc.

Interestingly, Labour had continued teaching of English and maths to 18yo in their 2015 manifesto.. I’m guessing they meant applied maths that would be beneficial but too much chaff now and Rishi may well have meant the same. Knee jerk reactions on both side may make it impossible when there may be benefits that people after thinking about it for 5 secs haven’t considered

I think he's mixed up "Prime Minister" and "The Monarch" when it comes to whom the law functionally doesn't apply to.

Very on brand for a Tory.

Again, this is just another episode in the latest season of The Thick of It. I can just see Malcolm coming round after this has happened to give Rishi and his aides a good bollocking.

I mean, what were they gonna do, not fine him on what's functionally a strict liability offence, and prove that politicians are above the law?

He is the first to break the law as chancellor and pm, not sure he can blame Putin for that. :D

Distracting us from the bigger scandal that is Zahawi, for example.

yep, another example of our leaders not thinking the laws apply to them.

I bet the vast majority of people sat in the back of expensive cars getting driven around aren’t wearing a seatbelt, I bet a lot of us have had drunken taxi rides home without one, and I bet most of us know someone who doesn’t wear one.

Yes he should have, yes it was stupid, does anyone actually care that much?

For me it calls into question his decision making abilities. He’s in a pretty comfortable environment so to make such an error of judgement is pretty poor.
Also doesn’t help alleviate the public image he has of an extremely wealthy person who gets chauffeured everywhere, can’t refuel a car or know how to pay for anything himself and seemingly lives by his own rules.
