Whether the cyclist had right of way or not, there's no way I'd just assume a car will stop and give way. Like you say @dinny_g, there seems to be a lot of things going on just now with the Highway Code and infrastructure design which are going to lead to confusion.

That. Was on a (small but not mini) roundabout yesterday - car in front of me was going straight ahead but nearly ran into the back of another car that was taking the previous exit (ie heading left-ish), which had emergency-stopped - blocking the full roundabout - in order to excitedly wave on a couple who were waiting to cross the road at that exit.

This one is savage, getting run over twice at one junction I feel sorry for the cyclist. I'd like to know why the guy who pleaded guilty got six points + £230, while the women who pleaded not guilty got three points + £130. The cyclist was knocked off his bick right in front of her!

Edit to be more sensible - one expects she saw the black car pull in, and assumed it was clear of oncoming traffic towards her to pull out, because what sort of moron would turn across a lane when traffic was still coming?

I expect she looked left or something while pulling out and then heard the weird scraping, swearing sounds and then kept trying to drive for another 5m before realising something was under her car.

I expect she'd have used the 'he was turning in so I reasonably assumed it was safe to pull out' as a defence against driving without due care.

Further edit: Credit to the cyclist for remaining totally fucking chill. I think I'd have wanted to throttle the focus driver for trying to deny reality to my face.

Because woman. There's a story a week in the Manchester Evening News up here about women being let off fairly leniently when it comes to road traffic offences.

It's interesting seeing how stress affects people differently.
The woman also had to pay £130 court costs and £15 victim surcharge.
Maybe the difference in points is that she didn't cause the initial accident? Who knows.
I'm trying to figure out if there is any way he wouldn't have been visible to her at some point.

Vine is a dick, that kind of thing happens all the time on the big cycle lanes in town and we all usually just give way and let each other get on with our journeys.

He should have been aware maybe he was but underestimated the bikes speed. A good driver (or cyclist) uses their experience to spot mistakes ahead of time and react.
