Problem solved when you can’t keep up anymore.

Do an inflateable, then when he gets cocky, launch him across the inflatable and bounce to victory 😎

Mini Dinny certainly got me for pace but he has no stamina. So over 1/2 km to 1 km, he's got me beat but I can keep going at a reasonable pace (so long as my knees play ball) for hours - slow and steady but consistent.

Running at 8kmh I can go for a long time until my feet blister and I have enough. I also made a terrible mistake, bought one of those polyester keep cool running t-shirts for the upcoming hot weather. Now I've always hated plastic clothing and think that nothing beats cotton. Well this bastard t-shirt has sanded my nipples away to nothing during a 5k run
How do people wear these?!

Tough nipples ?

Just whatever cheap T-shirt has the most cotton in works. If you sweat then I find having it stick to you a bit means it’s not moving about and rubbing you anyway.

I recently figured out a have a hagland’s deformity (little bone growth on my heel, can be very painful) which has given me my last excuse to never run again

I suspect peoples nips get hardened to them. I also have some lovely Bjorn Borg tech t-shirts that are lightweight and silky smooth. Some of the cheaper tech t-shirts are quite chunky weave and cheese-grateresque. Altough I only ever had a problem with runners nipple back when I first started.

Anyway, put some selotape over your nips before a run and all's good.

Its a painful old lesson to learn, that first time it happens, you don't realise and you get in the shower...

Micropore tape does the trick (I just wear a UA base layer instead). Or these...

Windrush Aquathlon today, 500m swim in Brockwell Lido then 5k run. It’s my first multisport race this year and this is about as short as it gets.

Swim was brilliant for two reasons. Brockwell Lido seems to be very low chlorine so the water feels really fresh, and my skin didn’t feel destroyed afterwards either.

Secondly, you get set off at 20 second intervals in waves and zig zag up and down the pool, from lane 1 to lane 5, going up then down lane 1, then duck under the rope and go up and down lane 2 etc etc. 5 x 50m lanes in both directions = 500m.

By pure luck I was the first athlete in my wave which meant I had clear water ahead of me and didn’t have to deal with any overtakes, and was first out the water too 😎 (it also meant I couldn’t draft anyone, but it was glorious having an empty pool in front of me)

Run was meh, I’m in average shape so nothing crazy fast, but it’s a nice course and a great day for it. Overall great fun to get out and do some racing 😊

Did the junior park run with middle and youngest today.

Youngest matched her best finish, and set her second best time.

Middle one finished fourth (highest ever) and took 16 seconds off his PB in the process. We've not run in nine weeks, but that didn't seem to stop him. He then came running across to cheer us along.

The GF did parkrun yesterday with her running buddy who's just been diagnosed with Parkinsons. It really perked her up to finally get out and run a 5k, even if it was a slow one. The GF treated that as a warm up as she's doing a 31 mile run in Bath today.

You're all mad and I admire you.

Both boys have expressed an interest in running with me, so we tried.

Eldest wants to be able to do the Junior Parkrun faster, but isn't much of a runner. We did a 2.8k run yesterday to begin to build his stamina up to increase the pace. He walked some of it, but ran the majority, so that is a good start.

Middle one wants to go on longer runs, said he wanted to try a 5k with me. So, this morning we went out. It was rather instructive. I had to keep his pace down, and he runs with the elegance, economy and grace of a natural. Oh, to have the boundless energy of an 8yo. He never looked flustered or tired, and I'm sure could have run faster if I had let him.

We ended up doing 6k, and he had energy to skip and hop on the last half mile. He's now wrestling his brother, because he's clearly not worn out.

That's super cool, get them on that junior parkrun so they can see their times improve!

We're regulars already. His (much, much) faster friend is hitting his 100th park run very soon, which is motivating.

Milestone achieved today. Ran my first 10k ever (10.65k to be precise), at a reasonable pace of 5.52m/km. Realised it was something I could do when I managed an unplanned 9.3k last week. If you'd told me three years ago that I would be able to do that, I'd have laughed.

Have to get some new running gear, as my running trousers no longer fit and keep slipping down my hips. I've clearly lost some girth!

First runs of the year. Took the eldest (who isn't a runner and doesn't like it much) out on a loop of the park and back, then carried on.

Managed to trip and fall on a bit of road I've run a hundred times. Apart from the bruised hands, knee and ego, I tore my new running trousers.

Aggregate 7k though, so a decent start. Running with the eldest was a challenge as I have to keep his pace which is much slower than mine.
