Never really seen the appeal of the Sierra tbh. Might be fun to get one and chuck a 302ci V8 in like they got in SA but I'd never actually spend money on one.

My dad had a 2.0i ghia back in the day (C314BTR) - it was a decent car and light years better than the cavalier it replaced, but I don't get the obsession with run of the mill cars just because your dad had one in the 80s.

My dad had a Sapphire 2.0 GLS that followed 2 MK2 Cavaliers, it was leagues ahead but like you say, nothing special.

Anyway, not like I have the money for anything, so bleh

Because nostalgia is a hell of a drug, innit.

i think I'd get it if:
- it was a truly exceptional car - like a Cosworth
- something exceptional happened in it
- it was lost somehow
- the person loved it and died in its ownership

See above and then remember Paul and his bloody Vectra. Shows people can have irrational emotional feelings about hateful shitboxes.

4x4 Sierra was a car I really liked back in the day but am sure it'd feel bloody rubbish now.

Almost certainly, it'd be crap given how much even relatively simple things like torsional rigidity have improved - an MX5 is probably massively stiffer than any Sierra. Not even a current one.

Meh, I like (some) shite old cars, and if they’re a bit quirky and completely different to anything else I’ve owned then I’d like to give them a go.

My dads Alfa’s are what got me into cars in the first place because they looked and sounded different to the more run of the mill cars my friends dads had.

My old man has had plenty of cars growing up. The only one I remember fondly is the Rover SD1 V8. He didn't even have the Vitesse, yet that's the only one I would ever wish to own. I wouldn't even cross the road for the 2600 version (he had one of those too) so yeah, I don't get the love for boggo versions just because your Dad had one either.

That’s been for sale for ages. Isn’t it just a boggo 911 under the filler & stickers ?

The price is a laugh but the front end on that looks way better than the 911 Moby Dick tribute.
