What sorts of monies for 325? Still toying of chopping superb superb in. Given state of affairs it will prob see less than 2k miles in next 6 months.

Since posting, TFL have written to me saying that I can get 90% discount again from Monday!
I might still sell it though - having a second interview for a new job on Monday, and if I don’t need a car for it then I’ll let it go.
To someone on this forum, about £2.5k. I just drove it for the first time in 3 weeks this evening and it’s great. 92k rather than 88k.
It has a few light knocks given the age, but no corrosion visible. Aside from slightly slow front windows (there’s a new drivers regulator in the boot to fit), about once in every 1500 miles the eml comes on, probably due to a breather pipe (a new one of those is in the boot also).
It’s had new discs, pads, bilstein rear shocks and eibach springs, and a battery in the last 15 months.

It’s a 5-sp rather than 6-sp isn’t it? The 325Ti I test drove about 15 years ago was one of the nicest E46s I ever drove. The engine is sweeter than the 3.0, it had all the poise of other variants but being lighter handled more sweetly. Even rode ok on 18”s. Wonderful cars. If I had any use for it I’d buy it myself.

A nail on the inside edge of one of the fronts, they are about 4000 miles old so will get a pair of fronts. £200 fitted for 2 Pilot Sport 4 Michelins though which isn’t bad.

Yes, it’s a 5 speed. The slightly higher rpm on the motorway seems to make no difference to the economy.

This was when the rear shocks and springs were done - it’s settled slightly now.

I am a bit tempted tbh. The compact was never really on my radar before but everyone seems to like it and it would fit the bill well as a second car. I’m a bit put off by the very fact that I needed to Google what a breather pipe was, let alone how to fit one

You can just reset it with the £15 code reader in the car like I do. 30 seconds plugging it in once a month is preferable to getting your hands dirty low down at the front of the engine!

So while checking the tyre pressures, I noticed the 4C has a strange weight limit:

Now, its either:
A) The combined weight of the car and passengers, which as it's <900kg dry with no options, but more like 1000kg in road spec, leaving only 175kg for people and cargo is a push. I'm 85kg, so the OH would need to be staying well away from any desserts and limited to 1 bag or less of shopping.
B) You're allowed to carry 1.1 ton of people and cargo. Unless I'm planning to haul gold bullion, I think I'll struggle to find room for it long before I get near that limit.

I take it the Pilot Sport 4 S is just the updated version of the 4? I notice you can still buy both versions but spec-wise they look pretty similar.

Will just get them fitted at the house I think as I'm a lazy SOB and Christmas traffic will be a 'mare.

Different tyres.

The S is the more sporty, stickier but faster wearing one which replaced the super sport. The normal 4 is still an excellent road tyre.

First proper day of no work but I had to set the alarm as Halfords were coming for 8. Except they didn't show.

I got an email at about half eight saying they'd be there between half one and four which was no good. Which is why I picked the 8am appointment.

I went all Larry David on the phone (a bit like the Seinfeld car rental reservation bit) but in the end CBA so just rebooked it for any time on Thursday.

On my way back from lunch at half two I got a call from the Halfords tech saying he'd be there in 15 minutes.

So I think in the end that's good service but I'm not entirely sure how.

I went to start the Compact today and no-go. It spins over healthily but won't fire. In addition the temp gauge shoots right up to the max as soon as you turn on the ignition. I assume a dodgy sensor. Will that affect the starting ? A failsafe to stop you starting the engine when it's overheated ?

It's not been driven in at least a couple of months and the weather has been pants so I'd not be surprised if something has got damp.

And plug in a code reader you say ? Funny story. When I did the coil-on-plug conversion it involved fiddling with the wiring to the OBC socket in the engine bay so I removed it and tucked the wires away somewhere inaccessible telling myself I'd get back to it. I didn't get back to it

I just changed all 4 pilot sport 4s on the TT to Dunlop sportmaxx RT. In the cold I’d say the Dunlops are just as good but the Michelins were incredibly in the warm and dry, genuine laugh out loud grip levels with 225/40/18 size.
