When the nipper was about 4 or 5, I bought a custom, hand built sled from Austria. It cost me a fortune but it’s a beautiful thing and will last for decades and get handed down.

Got a good dusting in the evening but it was raining when we woke up this morning and already starting to disappear, we rushed down to the park and did a couple of tiny hills and pulled her around a bit in the slush. It was all a bit tragic but I think she enjoyed it.

A good covering here on the Yorkshire/Derbyshire border and very little moving on the roads. It does look to be thawing though with heavy rain forecast later.

The truth is that those cheap plastic sledges are the best for the job.

The expensive ones need maintained to work right and it’s not really worth the effort for the week of shite snow most of us get now

I've still got a one inch scar on my left thumb from an unintentional high speed sledge adventure through a hawthorn bush

Oh also, one time we pulled a kayak that had been in the rafters of our troop hut for years out. Worked very well until someone ran it into a tree

Not much effort. Just wax the runners and make sure it’s dry when it goes back in the shed.

I got special oil for it before Covid and treated the wood bits but that’s only every few years

On the very short hills near here, it absolutely flies. It needs a good 100m hill with a decent covering of snow

The timing of the snow last night was pretty good in the end - we only got 2-3 inches, but we were all at my sisters for a christmas gathering, so my little boy (7) got probably the first decent snowball fight of his life with all his cousins. The snow over the last 4-5 years has been pathetic. he’s still never been sledging - i got a cheap plastic one from a mate, but the snows never been there at the right time.

They've got a lot more advanced than when I was a kid. Used to just be moulded plastic, now it's a plastic bottom with a kind of hard foam upper section. It looks to be like it'll go well if we get something decent.

Exactly zero in our village all day. We got about 6 inches of snow, its starting to get icy as its currently drizzling. Very still so didn't feel so cold for our walk into Bingley and vack (4.67 miles total). Bingley was about 4 inch of snow in the open parts, but slushy.

Just started snowing again here, brand new Goodyear Vector all seasons on the Golf so should be fine in morning either way for the wife's commute over the tops.

Been sledging and playing with the dog in the snow all afternoon, soaked now!

Just a bit of sleet and rain in Gloucester. I'm disappointed and wish to know who I can seek compensation from.

There were still bits of white on the garden and parked cars when I woke up, but nothing more than a bit of slush on the quieter roads. All gone by 10am. Pretty pathetic.

Still several inches here, all getting slushed up. Hopefully it'll be gone in the morning, cos it's fucking tedious.

I had cleared the cars and the front steps and they're all completely covered by another couple of inches already now, supposed to continue until 8am so the morning could be interesting for those who have to go anywhere.

We had the same. Rain came and it’s all fucked off now. Supposed to get very cold here overnight so see how icy it is in the morning

Been a mad week of weather here in S. Manchester - localised flooding on New Year's Day, probably largely down to gullies not being cleared by the council from what I could see, then enough snow for snowball fights and snowman building (I think the boy was probably 4 when there was last enough for that). Then more rain and more snow.

I'm working from home today as there are a few roads closed between here and the office, most notably the A555 again, which floods every time there's any reasonable amount of rain. Been trying to keep up with goings on at the Bridgewater Canal as well - it got a very brief mention in the news on NY Day but nothing since. It burst its banks on NY Day and has caused significant flooding, and after a slight reprieve the rain on Sunday put more pressure on the nearby River Bollin and surrounding roads.



The first 3mins of the above vid shows the extent as of yesterday.

It will be interesting to see what Peel Holdings do about it, as it's going to cost significant sums to fix. Tbh I can't understand why they've held on to it, and not given it up to the Canal and Rivers Trust.
