Had the insurance renewal through for the Porsche. I was dreading it, expecting that they'd give me a good deal initially then totally hammer me this year. It's gone down to £170. I'll take that! 8-)

I may have turned my car into a fair weather toy 😂

Diff being rebuilt solely as it was looking crappy next to the rest of the underside.
Image

Everything plated, powder coated, treated and painted where necessary.
Image

My h+r 500e specific lowering springs. These work with the self levelling back end.
Image

Mr Flew is doing his thing as normal.

Dave!

Did a deal on an X-Trail today, a 66-plate Tekna with all the bells and whistles and not big miles. It needed a few bits doing so knowing that dealers are pretty unlikely to discount at the moment, I focused on getting the work done on it that I wanted - new breaks/tyres/service/mot and the obvious cosmetic stuff as it has a bit of wear from being a mummy-wagon. Test drove pretty well, felt a lot bigger than the outgoing Qashqai, definitely higher seating position, not the last word in excitement but it's not really the point. It does have the (fairly rare) selectable 4WD so that will prove useful for the odd occasion it will be used off the tarmac. I've never spent so much cash on a car so it felt slightly surreal. I was put off by the potential bills a Disco Sport, F-Pace, or even an XC60 can throw at you, out of warranty. A Nissan is more familiar territory, although I do plan to stick an aftermarket warranty on it once the dealer one expires.

I may try to fleabay the Qashqai before we pick up the X-Trail as it's likely to make a few quid more than the dealer's offer of £1k. However given that it needs a new clutch, breaks, timing belt, water pump, aux belt, diesel filter and the £? of an MOT in a month, I may take the zero comeback route. I do have to change the steering wheel air bag clock spring yet again this weekend, whichever the case  It's not been a bad car for us while the kids were younger and prone to destroy nice things, but we have outgrown it now in more ways than one.

Off to buy every tatty chrome X-Trail extra I can find on eGay

Cheers,
Jon

Dave (and Flewy), the 500E bits looks amazing. So pleased it’s finally getting the attention it deserves.

Jon, I really like that shape X-Trail. Didn’t realise any were 2wd. The US market model name is better though:

Went to York, Scarborough and Brid yesterday and the pre bank holiday traffic wasnt too horrific - I bet it is today tho. Hope the weather gets better.
Was warm enough to pootle about with the top down, tho. Sitting at 90 isnt too draughty. Plenty of 'safety camera vans' out so be careful if you do get chance to speed.

Day 41 of the Elise Gearbox Saga...

Previously on EGS the box was delayed at the gearbox specialist. It came back last Thursday. Earlier this week a discovery was made that the supplier delivered the wrong clutch to the garage. Correct clutch due today so that fucked any hope of getting it back this week.

Have had both cars properly cleaned and the paint is in a sad state on both.

Galaxy is worst, with both rear doors beginning to peel just on the trim lines. N/S is peeling the most.

Image

Any thoughts on whether that's a respray or can be repaired?

(Ignore the leggy reflections).

Edit: covers an area about 20x5cm

Fcuked m8, complete panel will need doing as you can't blend lacquer. Need to move away from Ford!
